Plot Synopsis: Shield (Red Circle) (1983) #1
Premiere issue. Wraparound cover by Alan Weiss. The Deathstar Dilemma! is written by Stan Timmons and Rich Buckler and features art by Weiss and Sam Delarosa. The origin of Lancelot Strong, the Shield, is retold. Communist spies invade Fort Sherman and attempt to steal the Negatron Stimulator, a weapon developed by the Pentagon to create a black hole. However, when the Shield breaks up the theft, the spy ringleader is caught up in a blast of the exploding weapon.

Later, while being treated by Dr. Laureen Smith, the beautiful daughter of Fort Sherman's commander, the spy transforms into a hideous radioactive monster that generate his own gravitational field. It's up to the Shield to save Dr. Smith, shut down the Negatron Man and avoid getting blown up in a nuclear implosion to boot. Next, Steel Sterling matches muscles with the man-mountain called Humongous in a story written by Timmons and Buckler and drawn by Adrian Gonzales and Rudy Nebres.
