SHANNA THE SHE-DEVIL (1972) (#1-5) (MARVEL) #1 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Shanna the She-Devil #1
Premiere issue. Origin of Shanna the She-Devil. Cover art by Jim Steranko. Written by Carole Seuling and Steve Gerber and drawn by George Tuska and Vince Colletta. Shanna O'Hara was raised in Africa but was rushed back to the United States when her father accidently shot her mother. That began Shanna's hatred of guns. But as much as she hates firearms, the young girl loves animals, specifically big cats. Translating that passion into a career, Shanna became an ecologist with New York's Municipal Zoo, with a special emphasis on the African felines. But her life was turned upside down one cold morning when all of her beautiful cats are gunned down by a mysterious assassin who used a high-powered rifle outfitted with a scope.

Adopting the only two cubs to survive the massacre: Ina the leopard and Biri the black panther, Shanna returns the cats to Africa and distances herself further from the world of men and guns. She becomes a jungle queen, more at home with the animals than with her fellow humans. The battle to protect nature's creatures from man's savagery becomes Shanna's new profession. And poachers like Ivory Dan Drake and his cronies Vole and Zarg become Shanna's new enemies. Using her Olympics-level agility and martial arts training to enhance her knowledge of the jungle and its creatures, Shanna truly becomes a She-Devil, unstoppable in her holy war against those who would exploit the Earth.
