SGT. FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS (1963) #46 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Sgt. Fury #46
"They Also Serve!" Story by Gary Friedrich. Art by John Severin. This is the story that proves that not every wartime hero carried a gun. Some carried medical kits. Friedrich conducts a study in true heroism; measuring the bravery of a man not by his kill-count but by the strength of his character. While the glory may have gone to the pilots, sailors, infantrymen and tankers of WW II for fighting the Axis powers, it was the medics that held the line against death itself.

Caught behind enemy lines and surrounded by Nazis, Bull McGiveney and Ricketts Johnson don't see much cause for hope. Unfortunately, they are soon joined by their would-be rescuer Erik Koenig, one of the world-famous Howlers. In a lonesome farmhouse, the trio prepare to make their last stand and are ready to die fighting. But "Wahoo!"; the rest of the Howlers arrive with one very special addition, a brave corpsman whose job it is to keep the Reaper at bay.
