SECRET ORIGINS (1973) (#1-7) (DC) #3 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Secret Origins (1973) #3
Reprinting the origin stories of two of DC Comics' premiere super-heroes. First, in a story first published in Wonder Woman #1 from the summer of 1942, we read the origin of Wonder Woman, drawn by Harry G. Peter. In ancient times, the God of War Ares (later known as Mars) and the Goddess of Love Aphrodite battled each other for the souls of humanity through surrogates. Aphrodite's children were the Amazons, and their Queen in turn created Diana, Wonder Woman, who was the best athlete, smartest and most beautiful among her sisters on Paradise Island. But one lone pilot would teach Wonder Woman the meaning of love and of patriotic duty!

Next, read the origin of Wildcat (originally published in Sensation Comics #1 from January 1942 and created by Irwin Hasen and Bill Finger). As a young college student Ted Grant excelled at all athletic competition and especially boxing. But the death of his parents left him little money with few job prospects after graduation. Arriving in the big city, Ted befriends the heavyweight champ Socker Smith and he teaches Ted the ropes. But some crooked managers rig a fight between Ted and Socker and it ends with Socker's murder. Ted's only way to clear his name is to don the costume of the Wildcat (inspired by a child's description of the Green Lantern) and to take justice into his own hands.
