Written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning with artist Kevin Walker. In the aftermath of the War of Kings, the Kree Empire has conquered their ancient rivals the Shi'ar. Vulcan, the Earth mutant who had been the Shi'ar Emperor until he was deposed by Black Bolt, is gone, supposedly destroyed in a final confrontation with the silent king of the Inhumans. In his place as Majestor is Kallark, also known as Gladiator, the most powerful member of the Imperial Guard, the elite force of special operatives pulled from a dozen different worlds in the Shi'ar Empire.
With Vulcan gone, rim worlds have begun to rebel against Chandilar, the Shi'ar Throneworld, forcing Gladiator to send out his former teammates in squads to squash rebellion. Mentor, Manta, Flashfire, Electron, Warstar, Oracle, Neutron, Hussar, Smasher and Fang join the crew of the Starjammer as they explore the Fault, a rip in time and space that threatens the safety of the Empire. Inside the Fault, they are taken captive by a massive ship that was once a living being. Now a rotting hulk, the ship is crewless except for the mindless anti-bodies that still exist within, determined to wipe out the crew of the Starjammers as they would any infection. Meanwhile, Gorgon of the Inhumans brings Gladiator a message from Queen Medusa: get the rebel worlds under control or the Kree will!
