|Plot Synopsis: Mighty Avengers (2007) #13|
Secret Invasion continues. Origin of Nick Fury's new Howling Commandoes. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Alex Maleev. Nick Fury is no longer director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and many believe him to be dead. But he won't let those things stop him from defending the world from invading Skrull shape-shifters. Fury knows he can't trust anyone, not even his friends and to his dismay, any of Earth's mightiest super-heroes could be alien spies. But Fury also knows he can't fight back the invasion by himself.
One by one, Fury recruits new, young heroes to be his new Howling Commandoes. Daisy Johnson, a young girl who can cause earthquakes, is the lynchpin of his team. She, in turn, approaches Phobos, son of Ares, and the Greek god of fear in the form of an adolescent boy. A teenage super-speedster who is the daughter of the Griffin follows. Then, the original Ghost Rider's grandson and the son of Doctor Druid take Fury up on his offer. Once they've all been gathered, they meet Fury himself and he tells them the bad news: they may have to take on aliens imitating the most powerful super-heroes on the planet!
