MASTER OF KUNG FU (1974) (#15-125) (MARVEL) (SHANG-CHI) #15 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Special Marvel Edition #15
First appearance and origin of Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu. Story by Steve Englehart and art by Jim Starlin. The martial arts craze of the 1970s found a home at Marvel Comics with the introduction of Shang Chi, the soulful fighter of unmatched skill who continually found himself at odds with his preternaturally evil father, the dread Fu Manchu. For the man who's name means "the rising and advancing of the spirit," to find out that one's father is steeped in corruption is a great burden. It's a burden that causes Shang Chi to embark on a long and dangerous journey in the company of spies and assassins.

However, as this story begins, Shang Chi is yet ignorant of his father's true nature and history as one of the world's premiere criminals. Ordered by his honored father to slay the aged Dr. Petrie as an enemy, Shang Chi complies with deadly swiftness. It is only after this murderous act that he learns the true nature of Fu Manchu thanks to Dr. Petrie's long-time friend Sir Denis Nayland Smith. The characters of Sax Rohmer's thrilling pulp works get a fresh treatment here. And as the Master of Kung Fu finally turns on his father he must fight a quartet of killers or die knowing he was an ally of evil.
