Once there, the JLA is quickly informed that Earth-2 is being threatened by a monstrous astral hand, clutching at the planet. Even the magic of the mighty sorcerer Dr. Fate have been unable to discover its origin or how to defeat it. But with the help of Zatanna and Johnny Thunder's magic Thunderbolt, they are able to summon the Oracle, a mystical omniscient being. He tells the gathered heroes the answer to the hand's origin and its defeat lies in discovering the identity of the Unknown Soldier of Victory. Scattered through time, the Seven Soldiers must be gathered and it's up to Dr. Fate, the Atom and the Elongated Man to retrieve the first of the time-lost heroes: The Crimson Avenger!
