HULK: GRAY (2003) #1 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Hulk: Gray (2003) #1
"A is for Atom Bomb" is written by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Tim Sale. In the tradition of Daredevil: Yellow and Spider-Man: Blue, Loeb and Sale turn their unique way of storytelling on the Hulk. When the man-monster first debuted in Incredible Hulk #1, he was not the green-skinned goliath that is the subject of movies and TV today. Instead, he was gray-a color well-suited to his world which rejected the absolutes of black and white morality. The Army, in the persona of General "Thunderbolt" Ross, saw the Hulk as an enemy but in reality, he was misunderstood and more often than not, a hero.

In a flashback recounted by Dr. Bruce Banner during a late night session with psychiatrist Dr. Leonard (Doc) Samson, we read once again how a Gamma Bomb test went horribly wrong when teenager Rick Jones drove on to the test site on a dare from his friends. Bruce Banner rushed out to save the boy, throwing him in a ditch, as the last seconds of the countdown ticked off. Infused with a normally lethal dose of Gamma Rays, Doc Bruce Banner became the Hulk at night and terrorized the Army base. Only Rick and Gen. Ross' lovely daughter Betty could soothe his savage moods.
