HAWKMAN (2002) (#1-49) (DC) #20 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Hawkman (2002) #20
"The Headhunter" Part 1 is written by Geoff Johns with art by Rags Morales and Michael Bair. Under the veneer of the champion that is called Hawkman, lies a savage heart born in ancient Egypt and tempered by reincarnation after reincarnation filled with violence, vengeance and death. To the modern day inhabitants of St. Roch, Louisiana, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are like angels, who swoop down on beautiful wings to deliver them from peril. However, to the criminals of St. Roch like Firefly, the Hawks are avatars of justice. And to each other, Carter Hall and Kendra Saunders are lost souls, seeking their way in their new lives. Part of Carter's way of coping is to teach history as a substitute professor at the local university. It keeps him in touch with his roots: his prior lives stretching back into time.

Kendra, meanwhile, is moving forward, meeting new people and dating a new boyfriend. As she spends a night on the town, Hawkman and an old ally, the Atom swap stories of the pressures of being a modern-day super-hero and man. But even afterwards as Hawkman stops a wife-beater with alarming finality, an ancient evil strikes inflicting pain through voodoo. As Hawkman and the Headhunter clash, the villain calls on the Aerial Ace to reveal his true face--the face of the savage within. That's the face the Headhunter wants to collect.
