DOCTOR STRANGE (1968) (#169-183) (MARVEL)(DR. STRANGE) #179 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Doctor Strange (1968) #179
Co-starring Spider-Man. Cover by Barry Windsor-Smith. Story by Stan Lee and art by Steve Ditko. "The Wondrous World of Dr. Strange" reprints a story from Amazing Spider-Man Annual #2. Ditko creates a world onto his own in which New York City gives way seamlessly to miasmic nether-dimensions of arcane magic and back again. The world-famous wall-crawler meets the Master of the Mystic Arts for the first time. It begins with the would-be master magician Xandu recruiting two brawling tough guys as his mindless muscle. Xandu sends them to visit Dr. Strange's Greenwich Village sanctum sanctorum to retrieve the other half of a powerful artifact the Wand of Watoomb.

Taken by surprise by the overwhelming physical attack, Dr. Strange cannot muster a defense to hold off the nearly invulnerable automatons. They plow through the good doctor and take his half of the wand without batting an eyelash. Enter your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who mixes it up with the pair without much more success than Dr. Strange had. But planting a Spidey tracer on the goons, he traces them back to Xandu's lair just in time to see the sorcerer place the halves together and open a portal to another dimension. Using his Cloak of Levitation, Dr. Strange catches up and joins forces with Spidey to stop Xandu's mad plan to become master of the planet!
