DC: NEW FRONTIER (2004) #3 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: DC: New Frontier (2004) #3
"The Brave and The Bold" is written and drawn by Darwyn Cooke. In the 1950s, America was growing up. Stretching its muscles in the wake of victory in Europe and realizing an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity, the U.S.A. was blissfully rocking around the clock and sipping martinis in tiki bars. Meanwhile, across the ocean, the U.S.S.R. saw America as a growing threat and sacrificed all to beat the U.S. into space. The launch of Sputnik, the first manmade satellite served as a wake up call. America knew we had to join the space race or become a footnote in the history books.

In this effort, the U.S.A.'s maverick spirit was channeled into building and flying aircraft capable of going faster and flying higher than anything the Russians could conceive of. Engaged in this noble endeavor were men and women like Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, the Challengers of the Unknown and Col. Rick Flagg of the Suicide Squad. Except the goal wasn't to just reach the Moon; the goal was to explore Mars. The federal government, convinced that a Martian had arrived on Earth, sought to get one step ahead of any possible invasion from the stars. Problem was: the invasion wasn't coming from Mars, as the Martian Manhunter and Batman discover. No, humanity faced its greatest threat from much deeper in space!
