DC COMICS PRESENTS (1978) #52 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: DC Comics Presents (1978) #52
First appearance of the Ambush Bug. Guest-starring the new Doom Patrol. "Negative Woman Goes Berserk" is written by Paul Kupperberg and drawn by Keith Giffen and Sal Trapani. The Ambush Bug, a villain whose murderous tendencies are coupled with a lunatic sense of humor, savagely attacks and kills Metropolis' District Attorney during the Metropolis Day Parade while Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen catch the deed on camera. With an annoying ability to teleport away, the Ambush Bug seems un-catchable. But Superman has got another menace to deal with simultaneously. The Negative Woman, a member of the new Doom Patrol, has been driven mad with the pain that comes with her radioactive condition and is streaking about the city destroying buildings and knocking out power plants. The Man of Steel is caught in a mad game of catch up as he flies along behind the tragic hero to save the lives of those she endangers.

Enter the rest of the Doom Patrol: Arani a.k.a. Celsius, the beautiful leader capable of generating intense heat or cold; Joshua (Tempest) Clay, a passionate mutant who can generate energy blasts and fly; and Cliff (Robotman) Steele, the last remaining original member of the team, a veteran super-hero trapped in a super-strong robotic body. They are seeking to make sure their compatriot, Valentina (Negative Woman) Vostok, doesn't hurt anyone in the throws of her pain and in turn, is not hurt when she is finally captured. The Ambush Bug, seeing an opportunity for further chaos, manipulates the tensions between Superman and the Doom Patrol into an all-out fight. Can the Man of Steel and comicdom's weirdest heroes unite to overcome this dual threat?
