DAREDEVIL (1964) (#1-380) (MAN WITHOUT FEAR) (MARVEL) #69 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Daredevil (1964) #69
Guest-starring the Black Panther. Cover by Sal Buscema. "A Life on the Line" is written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Gene Colan and Syd Shores. Socially relevant commentary was a largely unexplored territory for comic book writers until Marvel started to take on the issues of the day in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Teen gangs, urban blight, drug abuse, Vietnam vets forgotten by their government and countrymen: all are represented here as DD teams up with the Black Panther to save the life of a young boy caught up in a life of crime.

It starts with a botched heist and a scrambling getaway that ends up with a crashed truck and a youth at death's door. Lonnie Carver, a student at the inner city junior high where the Black Panther teaches under the guise of Luke Charles, has joined up with the Thunderbolts, a street gang specializing at robbery, assault and theft. His older brother, Billy, a recently returned Vietnam vet had resisted entering the gang but eventually gave in. Lonnie followed his example and now it's up to Daredevil and the Black Panther to bust up the gang and save the young boy's life and his spirit.
