CONAN (1970) (#1-275) (CONAN THE BARBARIAN) (MARVEL) #18 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Conan (1970) #18
"The Thing in the Temple" is written by Roy Thomas with art by Gil Kane and Dan Adkins. Conan the Cimmerian and Fafnir the Vanir have fulfilled an age-old prophecy and have returned the beautiful Aala to the throne of Bal-Sagoth. They've defeated Groth-Golka, last of the lizard gods, and the enchanted warrior Vertorix and driven the devil priest Gothan and his puppet King Ska underground. But neither Aala, Conan nor Fafnir can rest easy as the three of them occupy a very uneasy place at the top of Bal-Sagoth's bloody political pyramid. Overnight, agents of Gothan cast a sleep spell on Conan and Fafnir even as they guard Aala's bed-chamber and send a leering, ape-like monster in to finish the fighters off.

Conan throws off the sleep-magic first and struggles for his life with the gibbering beast-thing before hurling it into a fire. Then, Fafnir awakes to the sound of Aala screaming and rushing to her room, the pair finds the beauteous queen in the clutches of a gigantic fanged creature resembling both monkey and bat. Fafnir charges the abomination with his Vanir axe flashing in the firelight and the battle ranges far below the city. There, Gothan and Ska are revealed as the instigators of the attacks and Conan and Fafnir face treachery and death at every turn!
