CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN (1958) (#1-87) (DC) #24 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Challengers of the Unknown (1958) #24
"The Challengers Die at Dawn" Fans of Survivor will dig this jungle yarn about the time the Challengers violated a tribal taboo and had to perform impossible tasks in order to avoid being executed. The story begins as the Challs chase stage magician turned international con artist Manfredo to the secluded and primitive Southeast Asian island of the Banjuk tribe. Touching down on the beach, the team splits up in search of their fugitive. But Prof, Rocky and Red end up peeving off the natives and can only escape their sentence of death by invoking trial by combat. Rocky takes on a giant crocodile while Red, the expert mountain climber, races an ostrich rider to the top of a mountain. Finally, Prof has to "out-magic" the local Medicine Man in order to survive until the morning!

Then, it's the fiery return of "Multi-Man, Master of Earth!" as one of the Challs' strangest and most deadly foes returns to menace the planet once more. Already capable of adapting a new power each time he pops a little pill, the Multi-Man seeks out a rare mineral that will allow him to maintain more than one fantastic new power at a time. Using a fiery energy form and an amplifying device of his own invention, Multi-Man sends a bolt at the Moon. With his new anti-gravity powers, the would-be conqueror then threatens to go to the Moon and send a similar ray back at Earth. And he'd succeed too, if it weren't for the Challengers of the Unknown!
