Plot Synopsis: Spider-Man (1963) #78
"The Night of the Prowler!" The first appearance and origin of the Prowler is written by Stan Lee with art by John Buscema and Jim Mooney, cover and character design by John Romita. Now that Spidey has shed his extra four limbs and is feeling more or less human again, he reckons it's time to hook up with fabulous Gwen Stacy once more. Stopping off briefly to handle a rude street thug, your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler anticipates a joyous reunion with the beautiful blonde. Instead, he finds Gwen at the Coffee Pot java house engaged in a deep talk with Flash Thompson. Dejected, Peter Parker mopes his way home not realizing the topic of their conversation was about how Gwen could better understand Peter's sudden disappearances.

Meanwhile, Hobie Brown, a window washer who's fed up with everyone ignoring his inventive genius and never having any money, decides he can put some of his inventions to use as a costumed adventurer called the Prowler. Hungry for publicity in his new career, the Prowler makes a critical, and tragic choice: he decides there's a quicker road to fame and fortune being a super-villain. Reasoning that he'll return the merchandise he steals and receive accolades for his efforts, the Prowler begins his crime spree at the Daily Bugle offices of J. Jonah Jameson. But to get to JJ, he has to go through one cheesed off Peter Parker!
