FANTASTIC FOUR (1961) (#1-416) (MARVEL) #7 - Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Fantastic Four (1961) #7
"Prisoners of Kurrgo, Master of Planet X" is written by Stan Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby. With a robot menace inspired by the 1951 sci fi classic, "The Day the Earth Stood Still," our story finds the FF planning a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet the nation's top lawmakers. But along the way, Marvel's first family come under the scrutiny of an ominous robot sent from Planet X on a mission most dire. The mysterious world's ruler, the tyrannical Kurrgo (a throwback to Lee's phonetically challenged monster menaces of the 1950s) has reasoned only the brilliant mind of Reed Richards can save his race from extinction. A rogue planetoid threatens to smash Planet X and with no interest in space travel, Kurrgo's people have only two spaceships built and no time to build more.

Once the members of the FF arrive in D.C., Kurrgo's robot blasts the dignitaries they were visiting with a hostility-inducing ray. Soon every living being on Earth wants the Fantastic Four dead. Flying back to their New York headquarters (in their stylish Flying Bathtub, by the way), the FF are confronted by Kurrgo's robot with an ultimatum: stay on Earth as eternal fugitives or come to Planet X to save its people in exchange for reversal of the hate ray's effects. The FF agree and on the far-distant world, Reed Richards devises a means to shrink the populace of Planet X so that they all can fit inside the only spacecraft they have. But as the colliding planetoid wreaks havoc on Planet X, desperate few seconds remain to escape. Clutching what he believes to be the only cannister of enlarging gas, Kurrgo lags behind with dreams of ruling over all of his people as a giant on their new home planet. Kurrgo's delay ironically becomes his doom.
