Local News - Huge Auction and Poker Tournament Saturday 12/15!

Howdy!

I wanted to write to you today to let you know that we are entering a very exciting phase here at the Mile High Comics Jason St. Mega-Store. In just nine days we will be hosting one of the biggest events on our annual calendar, when we commence both our largest annual no-minimum-bid auction of rare comics, toys, statues, and art, and also our largest Texas Hold'em Poker Tournament of the year! Both events will be held on Saturday morning, December 15th, with the poker tournament registration beginning at 10:00 AM, and the first exciting lots in our auction going up for sale at 11:30.

POKER FLYER

So you know, we are already accepting advance reservations for seats in our poker tournament at all of our stores. If you register in advance, playing in our tournament essentially costs you literally nothing, as your $25 entry fee is immediately rewarded with a $25 gift certificate that you can utilize to purchase anything you might wish to own in our gigantic store. Please note, however, that we only provide these gift certificates to players who register in advance. You can certainly still register on the morning of the game, but only if we have seats still available. Our December tournament last year attracted over 80 players, so early registration is strongly encouraged!

As regards the charitable beneficiary of this year's holiday tournament, it will be the "Feeding Denver's Hungry" Sister City Program with Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. While that beautiful Mexican town is a very popular tourist destination for many Americans, "Feeding Denver's Hungry" founder, Jim Scharper, discovered to his dismay last year that the homeless in that scenic city (including many women and children) receive almost no help from the local government, and are thus left entirely to fend for themselves in a world of abject poverty. Jim promised the local homeless advocates that he would try to organize a benefit in Denver for these desperately poor people, so 100% of the proceeds from our poker tournament will be donated to help them.

AUCTION FLYER

As regards our huge no-minimum bid comics and toys auction, arrive early, and bring lots of money! Our December auction is our largest of the year, with not only 75 core lots filled with 700+ Silver Age comics, rare comics variants, scarce toys, statues, original art, and much much more, but also at least 100 last-minute throw-in items. The revenues from the core lots go to help my beloved wife, Nanette, to catch up in our company bills, while the revenue from the throw-ins will be dedicated to purchasing gloves, socks, hats, scarves, and other cold weather protections for the homeless here in Denver.

We will also have a chance drawing for a $200 Mile High Comics gift certificate that day, and a huge refreshments array, with all of those revenues also being donated to help the homeless trying to survive Denver's bitter winter nights. Please help us to help those in need in our own community have a Christmas that is just a little bit more tolerable. Thank you...

On a closely related topic, I did also want to quickly mention that our auctions almost always start off slowly, as many of our most eager bidders are playing in the poker tournament. As they gradually get forced out of the game, however, many of our poker players move immediately over to the auction area, and the bidding thus tends to rise very quickly toward the middle of the auction. I'm telling you this because many parents have been bringing their kids to our December auctions in the hope that they will score some particularly great deals. That is absolutely the case, as I am the auctioneer, and I always make sure that every child attending on of our auctions gets some great deals. I cannot control the bids that I am receiving, however, so I strongly urge parents to have their little ones ready to bid when Lot #1 comes up for bid at 11:30. The first 20 lots will feature 200 value-priced items, so great deals for our younger bidders are a certainty!

The Front of our Giant Jason Street Mega Store

Finally, if you want to shop for Holiday presents (or for great items to build your own collection) I highly encourage you to stop by our stores either this upcoming weekend, or next week. Like all retailers we must operate on a budget, so we can only order limited supplies of even the most popular new items. That having been said, almost all of our holiday orders have now arrived, so our three stores as well stocked for you right now as they could possibly be this holiday season with great toys, statues, posters, key chains, trade paperbacks, action figures, and much, much more. At Jason St., during just the past ten days have also purchased over 50 huge collections! of comics and toys, so we have a remarkable number of rare and out-of-production items in stock right now, many of which we haven't seen in years. Most items are only one-of-a-kind, however, so they will be sold on a first-come basis. Shop early, and shop often, to have great fun at Mile High Comics!

Happy holidays!
