A quick newsletter today, as I flew in late last night from Dallas, and I am really eager get done writing, and to go to work. The reason for my enthusiasm is that I brought home about 1,000 incredibly cool comics with me on the plane from the big deal that I closed over the weekend. In a nutshell, I purchased over 300,000 (!!!) comics, including about 50,000 highly desirable recent issues that we seldom have been able to keep in stock, such as WALKING DEAD and DEADPOOL. When you can, via just one unbelievable deal, you can fill thousands of holes in your website inventory, it is impossible not to be excited!
While the one deal that I closed over this past weekend was so incredible that it ranks as my best acquisition of the past several years (better even than the complete Marvel collection that I purchased last May...), I actually closed on a second deal in Dallas just yesterday that will also greatly improve our website offerings. That 3,000 book collection consisted entirely of Golden Age and Silver Age comics (comics printed between 1933-1975) in a broad range of grades. I can't remember all of the titles contained in that second deal right off the top of my head, but I do recall seeing a lot of
AVENGERS,
FANTASTIC FOUR,
CONAN,
SPIDER-MAN,
X-MEN,
BATMAN,
ACTION,
ADVENTURE,
FLASH,
GREEN LANTERN,
DETECTIVE, and
WONDER WOMAN issues.
What makes me so excited and happy this morning is that these two wonderful collections, combined with the several smaller deals that I made in Boston, New York, and New Jersey two weeks ago, will completely restock us to where we were at the beginning of this year. That's quite a statement, especially when you consider that we have had one form or another of steep discount sale in effect since last March. I have genuinely disliked that endless offering of our best comics at giveaway prices, but as I explained in Friday's newsletter, our ongoing self-imposed debt reduction program simply left me no other choice.
That having been said, my decision to focus on maintaining our cash flow at the expense of our earnings, has now been completely validated. With six months of really difficult debt reduction now having been accomplished, and a complete restocking of our sacrificed back issue comics already on the way to us, I am feeling an incredibly sense of relief. It is going to take us a few weeks to get all of these newly-acquired comics graded and on our website for you, but we are going to be loading up thousands of great comics from these deals each and every day from now through December. After months and months of struggle and stress, I can now envision a great deal of fun!
Two quick news notes to close out today's newsletter. First, I am going ahead and keeping our current 65% off GREATDEAL! Codeword sale in effect for you, at least through the end of this week. While these wonderful new deals are going to act to restock us, I have already committed to attend next week's New York Comic-Con, so I do still need to raise a buying budget for that show. In addition, we do also still have to pay the labor and freight costs of getting all of those deals that I scored back to Denver. Even with great prospects on the immediate horizon, I do still need to keep the day-to-day bills paid. Please enjoy the incredible 65% off savings provided you by the GREATDEAL! codeword, while you still can...
My second note is a reminder that I will be hosting our second Jason St. mega-Store "soft" opening this Saturday, October 8th, from 10 AM -3 PM. We will have tens of thousands of comics, magazines, trade paperbacks, and hardbacks on sale for you in the Jason St. Mega-Store at steep discounts. I will also be personally conducting tours of our new insanely large 65,000 square foot facility, and then also conducting a cool no-minimum-bid auction beginning at 1 PM.
We had several hundred Denver-area fans join us for the first opening on Labor Day, and they all told me that they had a very good time that day. We have since made dramatic improvements in the warehouse and the 15,000 square foot Mega-Store, so this 2nd open house should be even more fun! If you at all can, join us at 4600 Jason St. In Denver on Saturday. I would love to see you there...
Happy collecting!!
