Death of Wolverine #1 Mile High Comics Exclusive

Howdy!

I am in an exceptionally good mood today. Not only is August 12th the day that I go each year to celebrate Feast Day at Santa Clara Pueblo, but I am finally beginning to feel completely recovered from our annual trek to the San Diego Comic-Con. It feels really good to wake up refreshed, and full of energy again.

Speaking of San Diego Comic-Con, I have received dozens of feedback letters about the columns that I wrote during the show bemoaning the trends at the convention toward publisher and toy manufacturer exclusives, and the propensity for some fans to now attend that show strictly as a way to turn a quick profit. The vast majority of the letters I have received have been supportive, and several actually advocated more vociferously against convention exclusives. That having been said, the reality is that all worlds evolve, and we have to either adapt to those changes, or move on. In the case of SDCC, after first believing that our interests would be best served by just leaving, I let myself be persuaded to try one more time to find a strategy that would allow us to be relevant. The three new Mile High Comics exclusives that I will offer to you in a moment are part of that adaptation strategy...

Before I get into today's actual business topics, however, I want to make clear just how committed I remain to the world of comics, both as a business, and as an art form. I might on occasion express extreme frustration sometimes about certain aspects of our world, but the truth is that even after 45 years in the business, I still awake each morning eager to serve those who share my interest in comics. More than any other reason, that is why I continue to write these newsletters, and why I undertook the Herculean task of building the world's largest comics store in Jason St. All other considerations aside, I believe that we are all blessed to live in such a wonderful age, where the joys of comics have finally become so universally recognized...

Moving on to business, part of our strategy for next year's San Diego convention will be a continued expansion of our existing line of Mile High Comics exclusive variants. Our backlist of 55 MHC variants sold very well for us at the show this year, and I think that they will continue to sell well at future shows, if for no other reason that we never wholesale our variants, or discount their prices. Simply put, my belief is that we owe an obligation to those fans who have helped us to cover the initial costs of printing our variants to never let their prices decline, so I keep very tight control over our print runs.

Death of Wolverine #1

That having been said, we have three new variants that are being released very soon. The best recognized will be our upcoming DEATH OF WOLVERINE #1, but I also think that our SABRINA (2014) #1 and DOCTOR WHO: THE TWELFTH DOCTOR (2014) #1 will be quite popular. If any of these new releases appeal to you, you can still pre-order copies of any if these three variants via Greg or Mario in our New Comics Subscription Department for $14.95 each. You can call them (weekdays 9-5) at 303-455-2659, or write to them at nice@milehighcomics.com. Please note that there is a strictly held limit of five copies per title. Also, our list price on each of these comics will automatically increase in cost by $5, once they are released.

Two quick closing notes. First, our 40% off GREATDEAL codeword is still in effect for you on most of our eight million back issue comics and magazines listed on our website. The usual restrictions apply. Second, we have 30 copies each of the latest wave of "SELFIE" covers from DC that we can afford to offer as free bonus items. You can request any one as a bonus for a minimum $40 order, or any five as a bonus for a minimum $150 order. Let us know in the "notes" part of the order form which free issues you would like to receive.

Happy Collecting!
