Howdy!

Today's newsletter is being written in scenic Santa Fe, New Mexico. As I have done every August for the past 15 years, I am here to attend the annual Feast Day dances at nearby Santa Clara Pueblo. Feast Day is a celebration during which several hundred members of the Santa Clara tribe dance in unison. Their songs and dances are at least 800 years old, having first been performed by their Anasazi forbears and are essential community prayers. The children of the community are encouraged to dance from as young as the age of three, which makes these events quite family-friendly, yet also profoundly spiritual in nature.

Aside from celebrating Feast Day with my friends at Santa Clara, I am also relaxing and regaining my strength after several months of non-stop effort that began with our preparing for Denver Comic-Con. While I do not mind at all working seven days a week for extensive periods of time, even I eventually run out of energy. That having been said, driving to and exhibiting at San Diego Comic-Con is always the most strenuous of my summer efforts. As much as I might wish to keep going at full speed after that convention, my body is telling me that I need to stop and rest. This year I am heeding that call, especially in light of my having had a relapse of my dreaded West Nile symptoms at this same time last year. The last thing that I need right now is another debilitating bout of encephalitis of the hypothalamus...

While going on a self-imposed R&R trip might sound very appealing, bear in mind that I am the ultimate type-A workaholic. As a result, I am already itching to go home, as I have over 150,000 back issues waiting for me to sort back at our Jason St. Mega-Store from my buying trips earlier this year. In point of fact, however, my sorting them right now would do absolutely no good, as I already sorted out 10,000 comics for grading by our inventory teams. That is a greater number of comics than they can possibly be able to get graded and entered into our New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock links for you before I return. Sigh...

Speaking of Jason St., we are transforming that immense store again, this time with a Herculean effort being put into what we call our "Ocean of Comics" display. Simply put, we are merging together about 300,000 back issue comics (1,000+ long boxes) into one gigantic system, sorted by alphabet. Not only does this vast display look insanely cool, but it also contains an unbelievably broad array of comics titles. It is also being enhanced by a further 1,000-2,000 comics each day (!), so even if you spend the many hours that takes to look through that entire file on one weekend, it will be substantially different by the weekend following. In great measure, this explains why our sales at Jason St. are now running 50%-60% over this same month last year...

While you may never be able to personally visit Jason St., let me assure you that our efforts at that store are not unimportant to those of you who shop with us online. A specific benefit that Jason St. creates for you is a far higher rate of order completion. To explain, most of the 300,000 back issues in Jason St. are not a part of our website inventory. That may seem somewhat inefficient, but it does provide us with an instant reserve supply that we can call upon whenever we run short of a specific back issue for our online clients. This benefit is not visible to anyone but those of us who work here in the company, but I can assure you that the Jason St. inventory fills well over half of our out-of-stocks on any given day. Another great reason for us to keep expanding our "Ocean of Comics!"

In other news, our 40% off GREATDEAL discount codeword is still in effect for you on most of our eight million back issue comics and magazines. Only new comics, a few variants, books, and our CGC-graded comics are excluded from the 40% off GREATDEAL sale. If you are thinking of purchasing a stack of older comics from us at the extremely low net cost provided by the codeword, I would encourage you to consider doing so relatively soon. Our business has been picking up quite a bit of late thanks to the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie, so we may need to reconsider our steep discounting program. 'Nuff said.

Guardians of the Galaxy FCBD 2014

Rocket Raccoon FCBD 2014

I will close today's newsletter with a special offer for you. All the way back in early May, Marvel Comics offered Free Comic Book Day editions of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY FCBD #1 and ROCKET RACCOON FCBD #1. As far as I know, we have at least 30 extra copies of each of these two highly desirable comics that we can afford to offer to you as a free bonus item for placing any minimum $40 order with us, or both for a minimum $75 order. Please be aware, however, that being stuck here in Santa Fe, I have not actually consulted with our inventory manager, Will Moulton, as to whether he thinks this offer is at all a wise decision. If Will objects, this offer will need end on Monday morning. In the meantime, however, just ask for your choice of these two FCBD editions in the "notes" section of our online order form.

Happy Collecting!

P.S. Below is a photo of a 1,000 year-old Mayan story bowl which I purchased this morning at this year's Great Southwestern Antiques Show, in Albuquerque. My personal budget for additions to my Native American pottery collection is very limited this year, but the seller offered to spread out the cost for me on this historically significant artifact, so I went ahead. It is amazingly cool...
