We Are Buying Comics, Books, and Magazines

Howdy!

My assistant, Will Moulton, was contacted this morning by two more longtime comics fans seeking to sell us their collections. That is welcome news, as our inventory teams have already made great progress as regards sorting and grading the two awesome collections that I purchased last week. If you can spare the time for even a quick glance at the immensity of this past week's Premium New-In-Stock list, I think that you will agree that we have picked up some amazingly cool back issue comics this month.

DAREDEVIL (1964) #3

In case you are wondering, we are being offered all these collections right now because I remain an old school comics dealer, and still believe in buying entire collections outright rather than asking people to go through the hassle of consigning their comics to us. Thanks to our huge worldwide clientele of 118,000 comics fans, I also have the ability to recover our initial investment in any given collection quite a bit more rapidly than most comics dealers. That quick recovery of invested capital, in turn, allows me to pay more for collections. That isn't to say that we are rash in our spending on old comic books, but rather that we work hard to find an equitable mid ground where we can pay collectors well, but still leave ourselves room to earn a small profit.

All of the above having been said, I want to pass on that there is also a seasonality to our purchasing. Simply put, our business drops off significantly each year with the advent of the back-to-school period. Prior to that point, however, our mid-summer rush tends to be excellent, and this year has been no exception. As a direct result, we pay the highest overall percentages for collections in May, June, and July, while collections offered to us in September and October receive the lowest amounts (if we are buying at all...). The rest of the year sits pretty much in the middle.

TALES OF SUSPENSE (1959) #23

Where I am leading with all this is to suggest that if you know of any fans considering selling their collections, it would be wise to urge them to call Will Moulton this week at 303-455-2659, or write to him at moulton@milehighcomics.com. Will can purchase some collections by mail or phone, but also sets up appointments for me to visit homes to view larger collections. Will and I will both be at the San Diego Comic-Con next week, but I will be free to travel to view collections during the last week of July, and the first week of August. Once the 15th of August rolls around, however, I am going to start scaling back. 'Nuff said.

GREEN LANTERN (1960) #88

Speaking of San Diego, I am going to initiate our annual 50% off SANDIEGO! codeword sale for you today. Effective immediately, all ten million of our back issue comics and magazines are available to you at half price. Only new issues, our CGC's, and a few variants are excluded. Please note that the thousands of older comics from the 2 wonderful collections that I just picked up are available to you at half of the listed website price. See New-In-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock for our latest update on these great collections.

Happy Collecting!
