LOCAL NEWS - Comics, Poker Tournament, and July 4th Sale!
Howdy!
After surviving yet another Denver Comic Con, life remains incredibly hectic and dynamic here at
Mile High Comics.
As an example, I purchased an amazing single owner
collection
of
Marvel
and
DC
comics on Wednesday, many of which date back to the late 1950's and early 1960's. Quite a few of these
older issues are in VF and NM condition, so our online clients have been ordering them with gusto as
quickly as we list them on
our website.
If you would like to see a tiny sampling of the 8,000+ comics
that I purchased just check the
Premium New-In-Stock
listing.
IRON MAN (1968) #1
What makes purchasing this
new collection
particularly fun for me is that it marks the beginning of a
return to the very enjoyable life that I lived five years ago. As those of you who have been with us for
a while might recall, I used to spend most of my time on road trips, seeking out comics collections throughout
the East Coast and Midwest. While my efforts as a professional comics buyer were incredibly productive
(and ultimately resulted in our having the best over all comics selection in the world...),that portion of
my life had to go into hiatus in order for us to be able to purchase our
Jason St.
building, and to then be
able to afford to build our
Mega-Store.
X-MEN (1963) #23
Now that we have sold our 56th Ave. building, however, and merged our online operations into
Jason St,
that epic 5-year reorganization of our company is just about done. That being the case, I have let my
family and staff know that I will be hitting the road after Labor Day, and plan to spend considerable
portions of my personal time for the next couple of years focused on buying old comic books. I can't
wait!
Before I leave, however, I did want to mention that I will still be available to make house calls to look
at larger collections here in the Colorado region for the next eight weeks. If you know of anyone who would
like to sell their comics or books collection, have them call my assistant, Will Moulton, at 303-455-2659.
You can also e-mail him at moulton@milehighcomics.com. Will sets up personal appointments for me, and can
discuss all aspects of purchasing larger collections. Smaller groupings of books and/or comics can now be
driven to any of
our three retail store locations,
as all of our managers now have the authority to purchase
collections that contain items that we need.
MILE HIGH POKER TOURNAMENT
In other news, I want everyone to know am planning a benefit TEXAS HOLD 'EM poker tournament for two weeks
from Saturday (July 16th). The tournament will be held at our
Jason St. Mega-Store
and will begin at 11 AM.
The buy-in for our tournament is $25, with all the money going to
Rainbow Alley.
If you register and pay the
entry fee for our tournament in advance at any of
our retail stores,
you will immediately receive a
$25 gift certificate that you can then use for anything we offer. In effect, you will then be playing in the
tournament for free! Grand prize for the winner will be a $500 gift certificate, with second place receiving
a $200 certificate, and 3rd-5th winning $100 each. New players are welcome!
