Howdy!

I am feeling numb this morning, as I am still recovering from organizing and hosting our 2014 Denver Comic-Con Party. Our party was an amazing success, with over 5,000 very enthusiastic fans participating. We built three special performance stages in the Jason St. Mega-Store for that evening, with a Cosplay performance show on the first, a huge Cosplay costume contest on the second, and live sword fighting demonstrations on the third. We also had over 50 tables set up with creators from the convention, including Neal Adams, George Perez, and Lou Ferrigno. We had fun!

ICRME - Cosplay

I will write a lot more about our party a bit later, but I will pause now for a moment and explain about how the success of our party helps you, even if you live nowhere near Denver. I'll begin by saying that our ability to provide you with highly desirable comics and books on our website is greatly determined by the overall financial health of our company. Our success may seem to be a given, but believe me when I say that it is not. Like most smaller family-owned businesses, we struggle daily to cover our operating costs, while simultaneously striving to keep our prices as low as possible for you. At the same time, we are also trying to generate enough working capital each day to have some ability to keep expanding our offerings for you. Even with 44 years of experience, my finding solutions to these complex dilemmas is not at all easy.

ICRME - Chase, Gabby, and Rodd

That having been said, Jason St. helps us to keep our costs down for you by entirely eliminating our cost of rent and utilities for nearly half of our online inventory. While not originally intended as a full-time retail store, Jason St. now has such a successful retail element in the front 45,000 square feet, that the 20,000 square feet of storage that we have in the back of the building is now essentially free to us. We were paying $10,000 a month for a similar amount of space in our old Fox St. rental, a monthly cost that had to be covered entirely through higher prices on our online back issues.

ICRME

Where this also directly affects you is in the fact that it is only because Jason St. turned the profitability corner back in March that we finally had the ability to drastically slash our online prices for you, some by 60%, or more. Jason Street's success has also been the prime determinator of our being able to keep our 50% off SWEETHEART codeword sale in effect for you for the past three months. Finally, not having to lay out $10,000 a month in warehouse rent has left me the working capital that I needed to purchase all those great collections that I keep bringing back from the East Coast. Without Jason St. being a success, we would not have had the ability to provide you with all of these great benefits...

Returning to the topic of our Denver Comic-Con party, we are creating a large number of YouTube videos about that epic event . Several are already posted for you, including my own interpretation of "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down, a fascinating time lapse of the crowds, and a fascinating overall walk-through of the party.

Chuck's Kryptonite

As an aside, my "Kryptonite" performance was the first of 20+ interpretations by the incredibly talented members of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire, a local GLBTQ performance group that raises money for other registered 501-C3 charities. I have been an active member of the ICRME for the last three years, and currently am the Marquis of the 41st Imperial Family. As those of you active in the GLBTQ communities around the nation (as well as Canada and Mexico) are probably already aware, there are 68 active Imperial Court groups, all of whom work very hard to raise money for their local communities. Our beneficiary of Wednesday night's performances was the Denver Children's Advocacy Center, a local safe house for kids who have been sexually abused. We raised about $1,300 for that organization, and another $400 for the White Rose Scholarship Fund. YouTubes of all of the ICRME performances will be posted for you, with a couple more new ones going up each day.

Joshua and Batman Collage

One final YouTube clip that I want to mention is an incredible time lapse of Neal Adams, Joel Adams, Tone Rodriguez, George Pérez, and eight more talented artists creating an unbelievably cool Batman collage that we are going to auction off for the benefit of Denver Children's Advocacy Center. This idea came entirely from the incredibly creative mind of our super-helpful customer service manager, Joshua Andrews, and he even did the time lapse photography. This piece of art is huge and beautiful, so I am going to start it off personally with an opening bid of $1,000. Given that it is a one-of-a-kind collaboration, I think that it is easily worth $3,000 - $5,000. Watch the video, and you be the judge...

My final item for today is an offer of free copies of the new BOMBSHELL variants from DC Comics. You can pick any one for free as a reward for placing a minimum $30 order with us, any 4 for a $100 order, or 9 for a $200 order. Just ask for your free BOMBSHELL comics in the "Notes" section of our online order form.

P. S. I want to personally thank everyone from our Mile High comics organization who helped with the party, and also with running our booth at last weekend's Denver Comic-Con. We were crazy busy, this year's convention sold out of 75,000 tickets! Our Mile High Comics staff (and about 30 volunteers) did just an incredibly job of helping fans all weekend long.
