Free Denver Comic-Con Party This Thursday

Howdy!

If you have not visited our Jason St. Mega-Store during this past week, I think that you will be quite surprised. In anticipation of the huge party that we are hosting on Thursday evening for the Opening Night of the 2014 Denver Comic-Con, we have completely rearranged the store. A very large performance stage is being built at the south end of the building for our incredible Cosplay event, while at the north end of the building yet another stage of equal size will be built for our costume contest. Two more stages will also be built near the new comics area for swordfighting exhibitions. Our party is going to be great fun for the entire family!

Pre-Party Denver Comic Con 2014

In addition to putting together the physical structures needed to make our party very entertaining, we have also been sorting, grading, and pricing tens of thousands of back issue comics. Our new arrivals tables at the front of the store are absolutely overflowing with great comics, many of which we do not even have in stock on our website. If you want to peruse our comics before the thousands of fans come to our party, I highly encourage you to visit our Jason St. location soon. More comics are being added every day.

Lou Ferrigno

On a related topic, just received on large shipment of books, and we have another very large shipment of comics trade paperbacks, graphic novels, and hardbacks on order for the party. That last big shipment of books should be available for you on Wednesday morning. If you can, stopping by Jason st. that day (or, early in the day on Thursday...) would be a good idea. Once Thursday evening rolls around it will be almost impossible to browse our bookshelves, as that is the same area where the Cosplay performance show will be happening. We will have cafe'-style seating set up for an audience of 200+, but I am also anticipating that quite a few spectators may be standing in the book aisles to watch the performances.

Greg Horn

As regards the timing of our party, the official opening time is 5 PM, but actor Lou Ferrigno has already promised to begin signing for us early in the afternoon, perhaps as early as noon. Other creators (including comics artists Neal Adams, George Pérez, Michael Golden, James O'Barr, and Greg Horn) will join us just as soon as their flights arrive. We have contracted for a deluxe 55-passenger bus to bring out-of-town guests and visitors attending the convention over to Jason St. It should make a circuit about every 20 minutes from 4 PM - Midnight, from a special pick-up point at the downtown Hyatt hotel. Given that it is only about three miles from our Jason St. store to the Hyatt, that should be an easy journey. Our shuttle is free, and available to anyone.

Mike Grell

Having a free shuttle bus is really important for another reason, as parking will be tight around Jason St. on Thursday evening. We did arrange to use a 100-car parking lot at a school just two blocks down the street from the store, but with 3,000 fans expected to our event that evening, we are still encouraging everyone to carpool. On street parking is always available around the store, but you may have to walk a couple of blocks. That having been said, you can first drop off your passengers right at our front door, except when our bus is momentarily in the unloading area...

Richard J. Brendlinger

We are also going to have a special drop off spot in the front of the store for those of you who are contributing to our benefit bake sale for the Denver Children's Advocacy Center. The bake sale is being operated by members of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire a registered 501-C3 charitable organization) with last year's Prince Royale, Richard Brendlinger, generously agreeing to be the bake sale coordinator. If you might be able to contribute to some bake goods to our benefit sale, Richard would love to hear from you. He can be reached at Princeroyale40@gmail.com.

I.C.R.M.E. 1st Annual Cosplay Drag Show

The ICRME is also contributing all of the performers for our Cosplay performance show, which is also a benefit for the Denver Children's Advocacy Center. The show will feature about 20 live musical performances, including acts based upon Superman, Wolverine, Tank Girl, The Joker, as well as an insanely cool act based upon the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. During the middle of the live performances we will take a break, in order to quickly pass out $2,000 in store credit prizes to the top 24 winners of our Cosplay costume contest. If you are planning a costume to wear to the convention, you might be well served by first trying it out at our Thursday night party. There will be four categories (child, teen, adult, and groups) with six winners in each group. Top prize for each category is store credit worth $200, $100 for 2nd, and $50 each for 3rd - 6th. With 24 winners, our costume contest is going to be great fun!

Pam - Cosplay Costume Contest

Quick mention that I have decided to contribute a total of $2,000 (!!!) in store credit to be given away as prizes for our Cosplay Costume Contest. Our head comics buyer, Pam Brandle, is coordinating this fun contest, which will begin at 7:30 PM on Thursday evening. She has set up categories for children, teens, adults, and groups. In each category, we will be giving out $500 in store credit prizes, with $200 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 prizes each for #3-#6. If you are already creating a costume for Denver Comic-Con, why not wear it to our Opening Night Partyparty, and possibly win a prize? For more details, contact Pam at pamb@milehighcomics.com.

My final news item for today is a quick plug for a Cosplay-themed performance show that will be held on next Wednesday night at Broadway's, a cozy neighborhood Bar at 10th and Broadway in downtown Denver. This 21-over performance show will also be a benefit for the Denver Children's Resource Center, and is being coordinated by Gabriella Butt'zin, last year's Princess Royale of the ICRME. I am not certain yet, but I think that I may be premiering a version of my own Death of Superman performance at Gabby's show. Lou Ferrigno is also planning to stop by for a few minutes, so if you cannot make it to our party or to the convention, this would be a chance for you to meet him in a very relaxed environment. Lou will be just be relaxing and visiting that night, however, so he has asked that I make sure and mention that he will not be signing autographs (or posing for photos) at Broadway's.

Happy Collecting!
