Howdy!

I want to begin today by thanking everyone who supported our 2015 Denver Comic-Con Opening Night Party, and our booth at the convention. Thanks to your kind patronage we had our most successful Denver Comic-Con weekend, ever!

Coming into Denver Comic Con

Now that Denver Comic-Con is behind us, it is time for us to prepare for this year's San Diego convention, which will be held in early July. If you visit Jason St. over the next few weeks you will see a beehive of activity, with upwards of a dozen of our staff members sorting and pricing comics for inclusion our huge convention booth. If you would like to work with us on this fun project, please stop by Jason St., and speak with either Chris Lamham, or Pam Brandle. They can put you to work right away!

Kids Drawing and Reading

As an aside, while the primary goal of our current comics sorting project is preparing for SDCC, a very important side benefit is that we will first run many of our newly-sorted comics against our "Ocean of Comics" in the Jason St. Mega-Store. As a direct result, you will be seeing a dramatic enhancement in our back issue comics selection over the next few weeks. Our San Diego booth is also coming out of isolation, and will be positioned for you right by the new comics area in Jason St. This will allow you an opportunity to browse through the 100,000 comics we have hand-picked for SDCC, before our truck even leaves for the convention.

Outside our Booth

In other news, our next no-minimum-bid comics and toy auction is scheduled for June 6th. The Mile High Comics portion of the auction will include 50 lots of a dozen items each, for a total of 600 items. What we also need, however, are some donations for a benefit auction for the White Rose Scholarship Fund. Simply put, the heavy rainstorm that rolled in during our Denver Comic-Con party on Friday night cut our attendance that evening rather substantially. While we more than made up for our own lost revenues through robust comics sales at the convention, the White Rose bake sale only made 60% of its goal. To help them out, I agreed to also auction some donated items for them on June 6th.

Inside Our Booth

In case you missed my earlier explanations, White Rose is an integral part of the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire, a registered 501-C3 charity of which I am an officer. White Rose has no operating costs, so 100% of all donations are given out each year to students from throughout the Denver/Boulder community. This year's grants totaled $14,000, with qualifying students receiving $1,000-$1,500 each. My plan is to broadly publicize the White Rose application period this fall, so that when the grants are awarded next spring, that some of our fellow comics fans are helped with their education costs.

Hawkgirl and Hawkman

As regards donations, any comics, toys, prints, statues, etc. that you no longer feel fit in with your personal collection would be most appreciated. So you know, we alternate between Mile High Comics and donated items during the auction, with our goal being to move very quickly. Everyone who has participated in our past auctions has had a very good time, and also picked up some great bargains! The auction will begin at 11:30 AM on the 6th, and should last about two hours. Refreshments will be served.

Howard the Duck

In other news, we are now only 17 days away from our first-ever Mile High Comics Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament. The game will begin at 11 AM on Saturday, June 13th, and with a $25 buy-in. Proceeds will go to help cover the food costs of the annual ICRME July 4th picnic in Cheeseman Park, where we not only feed ourselves, but also the many homeless people who live in the park. Our plan is to have 64 players in the game, with a first prize of a $1,000 (!) Mile High Comics gift certificate. If you want to play in our tournament, you can now register at your nearest Mile High Comics retail location. We have already had over 40 people express an interest in playing, so please do register right away!

Happy Collecting!
