Free Comic Book Day Report and Photos

Howdy!

Line in front our Lakewood Store
Today's newsletter is being written on a flight to Newark, New Jersey. This is the beginning of an 11-day comics buying trip to the East Coast, which will take me through 7 states before it ends a week from Thursday. The good news is that I am beginning this trip in exceptionally high spirits, as we had an incredibly successful Free Comic Book Day event yesterday at all of our four retail stores. I was particularly blown away by the turnout for FCBD at our new Jason St. Mega-Store, where an estimated 700-800 (!) fans visited us.

Jason St Mega-Store Crowd
One very common observation that was passed on to us by yesterday's visitors to Jason St., was that the photos of the Mega-Store that we have posted on our website simply do not adequately convey it's vastness, or it's incredible array of cool collectibles. Even folks who had been to our new store as recently as a couple of months ago were blown away by all the positive changes that Bill, Lisa, and Randy have implemented. If you are ever traveling through Denver, and can find transportation to the center of town (we're located in a warehouse district right where I-25 and I-70 intersect...), you really should stop to see our gigantic 25,000 square foot comics store. Please do call ahead, however, at 303-477-0042, as our Mega-Store typically has limited hours, and advance appointments are a very good idea, especially for weekend visits.

Will and Comic Wall
at Jason St Mega-Store
If you do live near Denver, you'll want to know that our next Jason St. Mega-Store Open House and no-minimum-bid auction is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th, from 10 AM - 3 PM. Our guests that day will include legendary comics writer Roger Stern, and Raven Gregory, the writer of the incredibly popular GRIMM FAIRY TALES series. I will quickly mention that our June Open House will be on Thursday evening, June 14th, from 6 PM - 10 PM. That unusual date and time were chosen because we are hosting the opening party for the Denver Comic-Con that evening, an entirely new event slated to take place that weekend at the Denver Convention Center. I will be passing on many more details to you about our June party, and the convention, in upcoming newsletters.

Mouse Guard
While I realize that many of the details about our Denver-area events have minimal applicability for those of you who shop with us online from distant locales, I do try very hard to make certain that our local efforts also benefit you. That is precisely why I asked Roger Stern if he would be so kind as to sign autographs for those of you who shop with us online. You cost per signed comic is a mere $2 per issue, all of which goes to help offset Roger's travel costs. You will also receive a very nice certificate of authenticity from us for each issue that you have Roger sign. Please do not delay in placing your order, however, as Roger will have only a limited amount of time to sign autographs outside of the Mega-Store...

Lady Death
Another autograph opportunity that I can offer you today are signed copies of the Free Comic Book Day MOUSE GUARD Hardback. Yes, this one FCBD giveaway (which was incredibly popular...) was produced not as a standard comic book, but rather as a comic-sized hardback. Thanks to the efforts of David Saindon, our talented and hard-working retail stores general manager, we were able to have Nate Cosby creator of COW BOY sign a few copies of this cool book. We will be giving away 30 of those specially-signed copies away to the first 30 that we receive this week that total $50, or more. Please do remember, however, that in order to receive your free signed MOUSE GUARD hardback, you must be sure to request it in the "notes" section of our online order form. Enjoy!

In other Free Comic Book Day news, the biggest hits of the day were as determined by our customers were follows:

#1 Lady Death: Beginning FCBD
#2 2099 A.D. FCBD Magazaine (2012)
#3 Avengers: Age of Ultron #0.1
#4 Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64/Star Wars FCBD
#5 Witchblade: Unbalanced Pieces FCBD

Serenity/
Star Wars
So you know, we ran completely out of some FCBD issues, but we did set aside 10 more complete sets of all 42 of the FCBD variants for our online patrons. If you missed getting your entire set of the 42 FCBD variants on Saturday, you can still receive an entire set for free, but you will need to place a minimum $210 order with us to qualify. We do also still have some individual issues still available as of this writing, but supplies on most are now very limited. Place any $20 order with us this week, and you can still choose 4 four free issues from the listing at the end of this newsletter. Issues above the first four can also be yours, one for each $5 increment of your order above $20. Just as for your free issues in the notes area.

In closing, I cannot stress enough that we have as few as only half a dozen copies left on some of the FCBD issues listed below. Please do try and get your last chance Free Comic Book Day Order in to us right away! (and please do give us some alternate choices, just in case we run out on your first desires...)

Happy Collecting!
