Free Comic Book Day Variants Almost Gone

Howdy!

Avengers:
Age of Ultron
I want to start off today by providing everyone who shops with us online with an opportunity to participate in a very special personal appearance and autograph signing. On Saturday, May 19th, we will be hosting a personal appearance at our Jason St. Mega-Store by legendary comics writer, Roger Stern. As a part of his visit to Denver, Roger has agreed to also sign a limited number of autographs for fans who shop with us from around the world. We will begin taking advance requests for comics signed by Roger today, and will ship them to you on Monday, May 21st.

To reserve Roger's autograph, simply order from our website any of the thousands of great comics that Roger has written over the years, and then also indicate how many of them you would like to have autographed. As with our previous autograph offers from Jim Shooter and Chris Claremont, there is a $2 fee per autograph, all of the proceeds of which go to offset the travel costs of bringing our comics guests to Denver. In exchange for your $2 per autograph fee you receive not only your signed comics, but also a nice certificate of authenticity for each issue. We've received exceptionally positive feedback about our past autograph programs, so I am really happy that Roger agreed to make this wonderful opportunity available for you.

DC Comics:
New 52
While I am already working out the logistics for our next big Jason St. Mega-Store signing on the 19th, I still have to deal with the fact that this upcoming Saturday is Free Comic Book Day. I will be working all day Saturday (9 AM - 6 PM) in our Jason St. location, giving away thousands of copies of the 42 Free Comic Book Day variants that were created especially for the 2012 event. I have to pass on to you, however, that I do not think that I will have all 42 of this year's FCBD variants available at Jason St. for more than a couple of hours. Despite our having ordered 250% of last year's numbers, we have already received advance requests for nearly all of our entire online allocation of four different issues of the "Silver" FCBD variants. We have a few copies of those four issues reserved for Jason St., but they will not last very long if our advance online requests are any indication...

Before I move on from the topic of FCBD, I want to urge everyone who reads this newsletter to support their local comics shop on that very important day. Running any kind of small business in this harsh economic climate is exceedingly difficult, but comics shops are a particularly hard endeavor to sustain in a world that is rapidly evolving away from paper medium. Free Comic Book Day is typically the biggest sales day of the year for most comics shops, and provides them with a much-needed boost to their working capital. I can assure you from my own personal experience that working as a comics retailer is more a labor of love, than a positive economic endeavor. Those of us who strive to provide you with fun and entertainment oftentimes struggle ourselves, so your support is critical to our being able to continue to serve you. Please do support your local comics shop this Saturday!

Moving on to other news, I did want to mention that I purchased a nearly complete collection of the ultra-rare WALKING DEAD comics while working alone in the Jason St. Mega-Store on Sunday. A couple of those issues sold to participants in our Want List program within minutes of being posted into yesterday's Premium New-In-Stock link, but we do still have the largest WALKING DEAD selection available on our website for you right now that we have had in years. The same holds true for a great many other comics, as Pam's inventory crew has already added over 10,000 back issues into our online inventory for you since just Monday. At the incredibly rapid pace of 5,000 back issues being added into our online inventory per day, your options of which comics that you can order from our website are exploding right now!

I did also want to mention that a great many of our website list prices are drifting downwards for you, too. Simply put, as our available number of copies per issue grows, those increases trigger automatic price decreases for you on our website. As a direct result, I would estimate that over 20,000 of our prices have declined over the past 30 days, especially in the VG, Fine, and Very Fine grades. A great many of our middle grade comics are now priced for you at only $1.50 - $2.50 each, which means that you can buy gently read back issue comics and magazines from us for about half the price of most new comics.

Transformers
Our already generous pricing becomes even better when you also employ our ongoing 50% off MADNESS! codeword, which slashes our website list prices in half for you on all of our eight million back issues (excepting only new issues from the last year and CGC-graded comics). When you take into account the fact that we also try to provide free variant issues for all the orders over $20, and then also provide free shipping for all domestic orders over $30 and all International orders over $60, we are doing everything that we possibly can afford to do to earn your continuing support. Need I say any more?

I will close today's newsletter by mentioning that all 42 (!) of this year's FCBD variants are now completely sold out from Diamond Distributing. We do still have copies of all 42 available for advance reservations today, but our numbers remaining on some issues are becoming extremely slim. You can reserve your choice of any 4 advance copies of the FCBD variants by simply placing any minimum $20 order with us by Saturday. If you wish for more than 4, you can add another for every additional $5 increment in your order. If you wish, you can actually qualify for an advance reservation on up to all 42 of the 2012 FCBD variants, but only if you can afford to place a $210 order with us (that's 42 X $5). That having been said, you will need to place your order for all 42 with us right away, as we only have enough of some issues remaining to create about a dozen complete sets. Finally, please do bear in mind that all our FCBD orders have to wait to ship until Monday morning, as we are not allowed to release them prior to Saturday. (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to new comics, trade paperbacks, hard covers, graphic novels, CGCs, treasury sized items, statues, or supplies)

Happy Collecting!
