Back Issue Comics Prices Slashed
Party Tonight

Howdy!

I will start today's newsletter with the news that we just made a massive alteration in the algorithm that prices all of our back issue comics. As a direct result, our website sales exploded overnight by a fator of 5X normal. Simply put, we are receiving more orders for back issue comics this morning than at any other point in time for at least five years! Visit milehighcomics.com right now to see our crazy low prices for yourself. So you know these newly-lowered prices are also in effect today at all of our Denver-area retail stores. A full explanation of the logic behind these radical reductions in our back issue prices will be in my video newsletter #6, which will post to YouTube on either Monday evening, or Tuesday morning.

Moving on, if you are looking for something fun to do tonight, I have a personal invitation for you. Tonight (Friday the 17th) at Hamburger Mary's (17th and Washington downtown), the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire will install it's leaders for the next 12 months. Our new Empress, Gabbriella But'zin will crown her new female attendants, while Richard Brendlinger, our new Emperor, will be handing out his medallions to the members of his male team. Combined, these two groups are the 18 people will be entrusted with creating events to raise money for the dozen (or so...) charities that ICRME funds each year, including the Denver Children's Advocacy Center, Rainbow Alley, Urban Peak, Freedom Service Dogs, The White Rose Scholarship Fund, and several more very worthy organizations.

What makes this a personal invitation from me is the fact that during tonight's ceremony that I will be officially installed as Richard Brendlinger's Prince Royale. As such, I will become the #2 person on the ICRME male line this year, with significant fundraising duties. As PR I am also required to perform on stage in musical numbers almost every week. That having been said, it would please me very much if you could attend tonight to see me perform a duet from GLEE (Everybody Talks!) with my new Princess Royale, LaShay DiMarco. We'll be closing tonight's show, so we're going to try and make our number especially entertaining!

If you do decide to share our evening, our show will be in the very comfortable CLUB M, which is two doors down from the primary Hamburger Mary's dining room. The doors will open at 7 PM (I suggest early arrival, as the seats nearest the stage go quickly...) with the show beginning at 8. Admission to our Investiture ceremony and show is only a suggested $1 per person, so we are definitely offering you the best entertainment value in Denver tonight! Many, many thanks go out to the great people at Hamburger Mary's for letting us use their wonderful CLUB M facility.

Speaking of fundraising, I am starting off our new ICRME year (Reign 42) with a benefit auction next Saturday (April 25th), beginning at 11:30 AM at our Mile High Comics Jason St. Mega-Store. This will be a combined event, with the proceeds from some of the items being sold at auction going to our Mega-Store building fund, while the rest being donated through the ICRME to Freedom Service Dogs. As with our last couple of benefit auctions, we will be alternating lots between our own Mile High items and Freedom Service Dogs donations. This keeps our auctions very entertaining, and makes the time pass very quickly.

I do have to stress, however, that the success of the Freedom Service Dogs portion of our auction will depend in great measure on the number of items that we receive as donations. As an officer of the ICRME it is my responsibility to create fundraising events in which everyone can easily participate. In this instance, all we are asking is that you take a look at your own comics and toy collection to see if you might have some items that you no longer love. If so, please drop them off at our Jason St. Mega-Store, and we will auction them for you. We will then donate 100% of the proceeds of the benefit portion of our auction to the ICRME (a registered 501-C3 charity), with nearly all of that revenue then being passed on to the Freedom Service Dogs organization.

Freedom Service Dog

As an aside, this auction will to be our last benefit auction for a while, as Free Comic Book Day is coming up in a couple of weeks, which will be followed by the Denver-Comic-Con just three weeks later. Those are two of our busiest days of the year, so my time will be taken up entirely with planning for those critical comics events. In the meantime, however, I want next Saturday's Freedom Service Dogs auction to be a great success, so I invited members of that great organization to bring in one of their trained dogs for a free public demonstration. Bring your kids to see this incredible dog perform, as they have skills beyond anything I have ever seen. Once you have seen what these dogs can actually do when helping their handicapped owners, I think that you will easily understand why all of us at the ICRME chose to donate generously to their cause.

Erika, Chuck and Chris

Before I leave the subject of auctions, I did want to quickly mention that I had an incredibly heart-warming conversation with Rosa Lopez, yesterday, a member of Karen Lopez's family. As you may recall, Karen was killed in the early hours of March 29th when her little car crashed into our Jason St. Mega-Store. We held a benefit auction for Karen's family last week, where the kindness and generosity of many members of our Mile High Comics community allowed us to donate $5,028 to help cover her funeral expenses.

After her benefit auction concluded, Karen's family expressed to all of us at Mile High Comics that they were exceeding grateful for our support in their hour of sadness. What brought me to tears during Rosa's phone call yesterday, however, was that she told me that members of Karen's family want to sell homemade tamales at our auction next Saturday, with all the proceeds then going to Freedom Service Dogs. How incredibly cool is that? So when you come to our auction next Saturday, we will have a table set up in the front of Jason St. where our Mile High Comics office manager, Trish Muniz, will be selling donated bake sale items, while the members of the Lopez family will be there selling their homemade tamales. Please, please, please support both of them generously.

Rocky Mountain Astrologers

My final item for today is a quick mention that my beloved wife of 37 years, Nanette Furman, will be reading tarot cards for charity this Sunday in Boulder for ROMA (Rocky Mountain Astrologers) a new metaphysical organization housed just behind the Sussex Building, on 30th St. Nanette has been interpreting cards for people with uncanny accuracy for over 40 years, and just might be able to provide you with some personal insights that otherwise might not occur to you. A $25 donation is requested, with a portion of the proceeds going to help bring guest speakers on the topics of astrology and divination to Boulder during the coming year.

Happy Collecting!
