AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 - Last Chance for FREE Copies Howdy! Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope Poster (click on image for larger view) Today's newsletter is being written on a flight over the Rockies. I am on my way to Los Angeles this morning for the World Premiere of Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan's Hope, the Morgan Spurlock-directed documentary about the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. I was one of seven "subjects" chosen for the film, and ended up with substantial air time. The film will be opening in a few theaters around the country over the next two weeks, and also will be available as a Video On Demand download from some providers beginning this Friday. Here are the cities currently scheduled to show the movie: Santa Monica, San Francisco, Portland, Philadelphia, Washington, New York, Brookline, MA, and Denver. Click on any city for a link to the theaters showing the movie, and when they will begin screenings. An interesting side note to my attending tonight's premiere is that I will be viewing the final cut of the film for the first time. I have already seen an earlier version twice, once at the Toronto International Film Festival, and then later at Fantasy Fest in Austin, TX. I have recently been informed, however, that tonight's version of the film has been significantly changed. How this will affect my role/portrayal in the film is a complete unknown, so I am quite interested in seeing tonight's premiere... Moving on to comics news, our special advance release parties for AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 at our three Denver-area retail stores last evening were a resounding success. David Saindon, our retail stores general manager, reported a line of eager fans waiting for our Lakewood store to reopening at 8 PM, and a steady flow of attendees right through to closing. As a result, we ended up selling a considerable percentage of our entire supply of first printing copies of AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 last evening, and will probably sell out all of our first printings that we purchased for our retail store inventories by the end of business today. So you know, we do still have some first printing copies of #0 and #1 that we set aside for our back issue website sales, but even those supplies were significantly diminished by huge last-minute demand from Greg and Mario in our subscriptions division. Suffice it to say, if you have not yet obtained your copy of a first printing of AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1, you need to hurry. This is now akin to a big game of musical chairs, as Marvel clearly did not print enough copies of AVENGERS VS X-MEN to satisfy demand. That having been said, if you are looking to buy reading copies, second printings of both #0 and #1 will be available in two weeks... Avengers vs X-Men #1 (click on image for larger view) My final mention for AVENGERS VS X-MEN #1 is to note that we do still have a few of each of our free special giveaway packages available for those of you who can place qualifying orders with us. We were nearly out of Group "A," but Will Moulton managed to put together 20 more sets by merging together unsold promotional items from last night's premiere parties. All the sets we have left, and the qualifying order requirements, are listed for you at the end of this newsletter. A couple of other quick news notes: first, we had a collection of 2,500+ low grade 1945-1979 Marvel, DC, Dell, Gold Key, Charlton, Harvey, Archie, Tower, ACG, and many other published in Golden Age, Silver Age, and Bronze Age comics arrive to us yesterday. Will Moulton is currently grading that incredibly diverse collection, with about 80% turning out to be "Good" condition reading copies. These lower-grade comics are already quite inexpensive as listed on our website, but when you also utilize our ongoing 50% off back issue MADNESS! codeword, your net price on a great many of these older comics drops to under $5 each! Will is grading about 500 of these old comics for you each day, so please do keep a sharp eye on our New-in-Stock and Premium New-In-Stock links over the next couple of days (please keep in mind the codeword does not apply to new comics, trade paperbacks, hard covers, graphic novels, CGCs, treasury sized items, statues, or supplies). At these extremely low prices, I expect that as many as half of these cool older comics will be sold by Monday. My final item for today is a quick plug for our April Jason St. Mega-Store Open House and Auction. I have not yet decided on whether this sale will be held on the Saturday the 14th or Saturday the 21st (I am waiting on a final guest confirmation...), but I did want everyone who might be interested in selling a portion of their collection know that we will have a special area set aside for anyone who wishes to rent a table ($20 each) from us to sell their own stuff during the Mega-Store Open House.
