Comics and Toy Auction This Saturday
$25 In Free Comics

Howdy!

A very busy newsletter today! I'll begin by mentioning that our huge no-minimum-bid comics and toy auction will begin this Saturday, at 12:30 PM, at our Jason St. Mega-Store, 4600 Jason St., Denver. We have put together a selection of over 600 cool items to be auctioned, with photos of all the auction items now posted to our Mile High Comics FaceBook page.

Golden Age Batman Comics

In addition to the 600 auction items that we already have posted on FaceBook, we are also going to be auctioning the four Golden Age BATMAN comics shown in the photo above. Depending on how high the bids go, we may sell just one, or possibly all four. They are in very low grade, but how often do you get a chance to purchase 1940's Golden Age Batman comics?

Lisa's Donation Items

Another very important aspect to Saturday's auction is that it will include an unknown number of items personally donated by members of our auction community. As a case in point, the items shown above came from Lisa Woolley's personal collection, and that of her beloved grandmother. All of the proceeds from the benefit portion of our auction will go to Freedom Service Dogs, a local organization which adopts young dogs from shelters, and then teaches them to help the handicapped picking up dropped items, turning on lights, and completing many other small tasks that people who are disabled (or veterans who are suffering from PTSD...) cannot accomplish by themselves. About half of their dogs are given to folks with debilitating diseases (such as MS), with the rest going to disabled veterans.

Freedom Service Dogs

If you have a few items in your collection that need a new home, please feel free to bring them with you to Saturday's auction. Our staff member, Jeff, will have a table set up that morning to receive your items, and will make certain that you get proper credit for your donation. We will then auction your items, and donate the proceeds to the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire, a registered 501-C3 charity that raises money for other local charities. ICRME will then pass along most of those proceeds to Freedom Service Dogs.

So you know, I am an officer of the ICRME, and I can personally vouch for the fact that we are entirely volunteer run organization, with only a few minimal operating expenses. We work hard to raise at least $100,000 each year for our combined charities, which also include Rainbow Alley, The Denver Children's Advocacy Center, Urban Peak, and several more. Starting off as an entirely GLBTQ organization, the ICRME is now a widely recognized community service organization, with a broadband membership that includes anyone who wants to help. We have recently been honored by both the Mayor of Denver and the Governor of Colorado, for our charitable efforts.

Gabriella as a Fairy Queen at Our Annual Empress's Winter Snow Ball

Speaking of the ICRME, this Saturday is when our annual election for Emperor and Empress takes place. Running unopposed this year for those two positions are Richard Brendlinger and Gabriella But'zin. Running unopposed is no guarantee that one will be elected, however, as a 51% "Yes" vote is required. That positive outcome is by no means a given in this year's election, as Gabriella would be our first "Camp" Empress in the 42 years of ICRME history, which is not pleasing some of our more traditional members. I am totally in favor of diversity within our organization, however, and I can assure you that Gabriella is one of the nicest and most giving people that I have ever been blessed to meet.

Gabriella and Richard preparing to feed the homeless at the annual ICRME 4th of July picnic in Cheeseman Park.

That having been said, Richard and Gabby are both great friends of Mile High Comics, and want to help us with expanding this year's Free Comic Book Day festivities at Jason St., and also with organizing another great Cosplay Drag Show at our huge Pre-Party for this year's Denver Comic-Con. Gabby also has a plan in mind to turn a portion of our Mega-Store into a benefit haunted house for Halloween! All of these events would benefit ICRME charities, while also making our comics events even more fun for those of you who attend.

In a nutshell, that is why I am offering everyone visiting our Jason St. Mega-Store on Saturday a $25 voucher if they will vote in the ICRME election. The polling booth is in the Community Room at 1077 Race St., a high-rise condominium that abuts Cheeseman Park, and it will be open from 11-6 that day. Your $25 voucher can be used toward the purchase of any back issue comics that we offer in Jason St., or may be used to pay for any of Saturday's auction items. The only requirements to vote are that you are at least 18 years of age, and have a photo ID proving that you are a Colorado resident living north of Castle Rock. Voting typically takes less than five minutes, and is actually quite a bit of fun...

For those of you who do not want to drive to Race St., I will be picking up a 15-passenger shuttle van on Saturday morning, and will begin driving folks who want to vote to the polls from our Jason St. location promptly at 10:30 AM. If all goes as planned, I should be able to accomplish two trips before the auction begins, and at least one afterwards. The ICRME community also puts on an incredible bake sale at the polls, so be sure to bring your sweet tooth on Saturday!

I will close today's newsletter with a quick reminder that we intentionally give kids attending our auctions especially great deals. No young people attending our auctions every go away empty-handed, as we absolutely want our events to be fun for kids of all ages. If you have the time on Saturday, please stop by and visit with us at Jason St. We will have free coffee and pastries waiting for you!

Happy Collecting!
