Special Comics and Toy Auction Next Week

Howdy!

On Saturday of next week (March 28th), the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire will be holding their annual election for Emperor and Empress. This is significant to those of you who shop at Mile High Comics, as we have been working with the good folks at the ICRME to host a variety of charity benefits during this past year, with over $10,000 being raised for the Denver Children's Advocacy Center, Urban Peak, and Rainbow Alley. All of those charities directly benefit children and young adults, which makes them ideal beneficiaries for us.

I mention the upcoming election because I am supporting Richard Brendlinger in his goal of becoming the next ICRME emperor, and Gabriella But'zin in her quest to be our new Empress. While both of them are running unopposed, they do need to receive a minimum of 51% "Yes" votes from those who vote in the election, which is not an outcome to be taken for granted. In Gabby's case, in particular, we have somewhat of an uphill climb, as Gabby's performances in our charity shows are based on comedic "Camp Drag," rather than more traditional "Crown and Gown" glamour, which seemingly is a problem to some of our more traditional members.

That having been said, Gabby is one of the people in the ICRME that I most respect, and I think that she most certainly deserves our support. I have absolutely no doubt that she will be successful in raising a great deal of money for all of our charitable causes, which is what being Empress is all about. So you know, Gabby's designated charity for next year will be Freedom Service Dogs, which rescues animals from shelters, and then invests a huge amount of time and money into training them to be companions to the disabled. About half of the dogs go to folks with traditional disabilities, while the rest of the dogs are allocated to help disabled veterans.

To be able to vote "Yes" for Richard and Gabby all you need to be is 18 years old, a resident of northern Colorado (living north of Castle Rock), and have a current photo ID showing your address. Voting will be held on Saturday, the 28th, in the community room of 1077 Race St. (a high rise apartment next to Cheeseman Park), from 11 AM - 6 PM. Voting takes less than five minutes, and you do not have to be a member of the ICRME to vote.

Chuck - Jason St. Mega-Store

Now that I've covered the rationale for voting, let me offer you a direct incentive. I have decided to host one of our incredibly fun no-minimum-bid auctions on voting day. We will start the auction an hour later than usual, at 12:30. This will give everyone attending the auction the opportunity to vote before the bidding begins. We will have an eight-passenger shuttle van available at our Jason St. Mega-Store beginning at 10:30 AM to drive folks over to Race St., and back. Simply put, we want to make voting in the ICRME election easy, and fun!

Once you have voted, you will receive a credit for $25 (!) from us that you can then use immediately to bid in our auction, or to purchase any back issues that you might like in our Jason St. store. Free refreshments will also be served that morning, which may include some of my friend Norrie Reynold's incredible pecan/cherry cobbler. Her incredible dessert, alone, makes coming to Jason St. visiting next Saturday morning very worthwhile!

Auction Crowd from December

Since we do not yet have any photos of our own upcoming auction items, I will just quickly mention a couple of important points. First, if anyone would like to donate any items from their own collections to be auctioned to benefit Freedom Service Dogs, I will auction them with our own items. Wouldn't it be outrageously cool to have a small donation check to present to Richard and Gabby at their very first event!

Second, I have already had numerous discussions with both Richard and Gabby about the ICRME participating in this year's Free Comic Book Day (May 2nd) and our huge Denver Comic-Con pre-party (May 22nd). If we can just help them to garner enough "Yes" votes next Saturday, Richard and Gabby will help us to make both of those incredible events even more successful!

Happy Collecting!
