Free BATMAN Blank Cover Variant

Howdy!

Today's newsletter is being written in the City Center diner in Allentown, PA. I am here on the first leg of a week-long comics buying trip. My goal is to pick up at least 50,000 comics on this journey, and have them ready to ship back to Denver by next Wednesday. I should be off to a good start today, as I have a nice private collection to look at this afternoon, plus several wholesale lots that are being offered to me by Oliver Hochron, of Allentown's wonderful comics shop: The Encounter. If you ever get a chance to meet Oliver at a comics show, I highly recommend that you take the time. Everyone who knows him will attest that he is one of the very nicest people on this planet...

While I am out on the road, our teams in Denver are keeping really busy. Our head of operations, William Murakami, is quickly working down our shipping backlog that resulted from our drastic price reductions last month on most of our back issue comics. It took a while for the new staff members we hired to figure out our inventory systems, but they are now helping us a great deal. Thanks to Williams' unbelievable hard work and dedication, we should be completely current soon. That being the case, I have no problem with continuing to offer you our ongoing 50% off SWEETHEART codeword on most of our back issue comics and magazines. Thank you, William!

In the meantime, Pam's inventory team is also doing a great job, adding over 23,000 more comics into our online inventory last week, alone. Pam's efforts are being greatly enhanced by Chris Lanham, who has a separate inventory team under his direction that is sorting through the one million back issues that we currently have in storage in the warehouse portion of our Jason St. Mega-Store. Chris's team has already prepared well over 100,000 comics for Pam to enter into our online inventory, just in the past 10 weeks! In all honesty, I cannot remember a time in our history when things were flowing this well at Mile High Comics...

As an aside, with a million unsorted comics already in stock, you may be wondering why I am out buying even more comics. The answer is that we have a great many modern (1986-2012) issues in storage, but relatively few pre-1985 comics. In the meantime, my comics dealer friends on the East Coast are having more collections of older material come into their stores than they can handle, mostly from local Baby Boomers who are downsizing. Those Boomer collections tend to skew much older than what we typically see being offered to us in our own stores in Colorado, so it only makes sense for me to head east to buy whatever my friends might be willing to let go at wholesale.

Before I leave you with a wrong impression, I do want to mention that Pam has actually been adding quite a few older comics into our online inventory this week, both in our overall New-In-Stock link, and also in our more elite Premium New-In-Stock area. Aside from originating from the collections that are being sent to Pam via our online buying lists, some were also derived from the time that I spent working at Jason St. over this past weekend, sorting pre-1985 comics. I sent Pam about 1,200 older comics to sort and grade before I left in this trip, all of which should be appearing for you in New-In-Stock over the next few days. Those were the last remaining older comics from my last remaining unsorted comics from my January buying trip, however, so it was definitely time for me to go back out on the road...
