Half Price Comics and Book Sale Begins
Howdy!
I was just checking on our progress here at our
Jason St. Mega-Store
in preparing for the impending
move of our offices from our soon-to-be-sold 56th Ave. headquarters building. I am pleased to report
that all is on schedule, with painting and installation of additional power outlets for the new
packing station on today's agenda. I will be renting another 26' truck tomorrow, and then using it
to haul at least 100,000 more comics over to Jason by the end of the day. It really helps that our
two buildings are only 12 blocks apart...
In other news, our new codeword is a 50% off 40YEARS! sale. In case you are wondering, my inspiration
for the name of our new codeword sale came about as a thank-you to my wonderful wife, Nanette. Forty
years ago this week she and I worked together at 1428 Pearl St. in Boulder, Colorado. I had opened a
comic book store in the back storage room of a science fiction bookstore located at that address in
September of 1974. Nanette then came to work at the SF bookstore as a sales clerk, about a year later.
CHUCK & NANETTE
Nanette and I hit it off pretty well right from the beginning, as we shared many of the same interests.
As a result, I soon became very enamored of Nanette, and begged her to go out with me. She demurred,
however, in large part because I was just too obnoxious. Simply put, in just three years I had gone
from sleeping under bridges and living in a car for four months, to owning my own (somewhat) successful
business. This one dubious accomplishment gave me a false sense of bravado about my own abilities,
which washed over into my personal interactions, as well. To say that I was an insufferable twerp,
would be a kindness.
In any event, I finally hit upon a scheme to get Nanette to go out with me. I went to her 40 years
ago this week with a plea that she accompany me to have my first legal drink. I was turning 21 years
old on March 11th, and I told her that I just could not face being alone on such a momentous evening.
Nanette could have laughed in my face at this ridiculous proposition, but she instead took pity on me,
and agreed to out with me on my 21st birthday. Cupid must have struck her blind that evening, as we
moved in together a few weeks later, and were married on April 1st, 1978. Four wonderful daughters
later, we are now entering our dotage together. Ours has been the coolest lifetime journey that I could
ever have envisioned!
THE WHOLE FAMILY
As regards the logistics of the new 50% off 40YEARS! codeword, please do allow two weeks for any order
you place with us this week to ship. As I mentioned in Monday's newsletter, our business has been
exceptionally robust for the past seven days, so we are projecting that we already have enough unfilled
orders in our pipeline to require two weeks of effort. We do tend to work backlogs down quickly, however,
and being able to purchase darn near any of our
back issue comics and magazines
at half price remains a
blessing. Only new comics, a few variants, and our CGC titles are excluded from the 40YEARS! sale.
CHUCK & NANETTE
Speaking of variants, we did just receive our cool new CHEWBACCA cover to our exclusive Mile High Comics
STAR WARS (2015) #17 variant edition.
You can still preorder this variant from us at only $19.95, but
only until it releases in two weeks. It is limited to only 3,000 copies worldwide, and continues our
unbroken sequence of
Mile High Comics variants
to every single
STAR WARS (2015)
issue that has been
released.
STAR WARS #17 MILE HIGH VARIANT
My final item for today is a plug for my good friend, Michael Carbonaro's, upcoming
Big Apple Convention
in New York City. I have attended dozens of Mike's shows, and I always have a great time. Were I not in
the middle of moving out of 56th Ave. right now, I would definitely be at the Penn Plaza on March 5th.
Please go to
Mike's show,
and tell him that Chuck sent you!
Happy collecting!
