New STAR WARS Cover Art
Back Issue Comics Half Price

Howdy!

I am very happy today, as we just received our cover artwork from Dell'Otto for our upcoming variant edition of the brand new STAR WARS: PRINCESS LEIA (2015) #1. This brand new title is an exciting 5-issue Star Wars mini-series, featuring a Leia story set between films New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. We have signed up to create a complete series of exclusive Mile High Comics variants for all five issues of this entire series. I am particularly pleased with the way this first cover turned out, as I am the one who initially suggested the theme of having Leia appear in a different spaceport Cantina on the cover of each of our five issues. I absolutely love the aliens pictured in this bar!

Star Wars: Princess Leia #1 Mile High

If you would like to place a pre-order for a copy of our exclusive Mile High Comics variant edition, I encourage you to contact Greg or Mario in our new comics subscription department immediately. We will have 300 copies (only!) available at a pre-order price of only $19.95 each. You can call Greg and Mario at 303-455-2659 (weekdays 9-5), or write to them at nice@milehighcomics.com. As with our STAR WARS (2015) variants, there is a strictly enforced limit of 3 copies per client, please, and all orders received are prioritized based upon when they are received. Greg and Mario will also be accepting reservations next week for our Mile High Comics exclusive variant editions of STAR WARS: PRINCESS LEIA issues #2-#5.

Star Wars #1 Mile High

As regards our exclusive Mile High Comics variant editions of STAR WARS (2015), copies of our variant edition of #1 are now priced at $49.95, #2's are $34.95, and #3-#5 can be pre-ordered at $24.95 each. I cannot guarantee these prices will hold for more than about a week, however, as our remaining supplies of our 3,000-copy print runs are continuing to steadily erode away. The simple reality is that 3,000 copies is a pittance when compared to the one million copies+ already sold of the primary edition (of which a 3rd printing is now being solicited...), which explains why we are running out of our variants so quickly, in spite of our limiting the number of copies any one person can buy.

Star Wars #2 Mile High

On a side note, copies of the very scarce second printing of STAR WARS (2015) #1 have also been selling extremely quickly for us, both via our own website, and through eBay. Given that Marvel only allowed a 3-day window of opportunity for retailers to order the second printing variant, almost no one did, which makes the second printing quite rare. Our price on second printing variants is now $30, but that is also in effect for only for a limited time.

At this point I think it important for me to explain that my own current Star Wars purchasing and publishing strategy mimics in many ways what I did when Jim Shooter first created Valiant Comics, way back in 1991. All through the first year of the original Valiant publishing I purchased increasing numbers of each new Valiant comic, as I believed in my heart that Jim Shooter would eventually elevate their sales beyond their dismally low initial print runs. In one instance, I actually purchased 1/3 of the entire print run of SOLAR #1 (14,000 copies!), just so that Valiant would reach the minimum number needed for them to receive their next round of mezzanine financing.

The outcome of my purchasing of those Valiant new comics became a huge profit for Mile High Comics (well above $250,000.00!) when the Unity crossover series caused the sales of all the titles in the Valiant Comics line to explode. Sadly, Jim Shooter was forced out at that same time, so the quality of the titles almost immediately declined. I purchased zero copies after Jim left, and began to judiciously liquidate my holdings. I sold the very last of my carefully acquired Valiant back issues in late 1993, just before the market for them totally collapsed.

What I am trying to convey to you with this story from our past is that there are a few magical moments in time when circumstances in the comics world come together in a remarkable state of positive congruence. I think this launch of the new Star Wars Comics Universe through a merging of Marvel, Disney and LucasFilms has created just such an opportunity. In a nutshell, that is why I am now committed to publish 11 (!) exclusive Mile High Comics Star Wars variants in just a six month span of time, and why I have also staked out huge positions in all of the Star Wars individual issues. I have been waiting 25 years for another opportunity as great as this one to come along, and now that it is here, I am going all in. Need I say any more?

Darth Vader #1 Regular

I will close today's newsletters with two quick notes. First, our new 50% off HALFPRICE! codeword sale on all of our back issue comics and magazines listed on our website has started off great! Only new comics, books, a few variants, and our CGC-graded comics are excluded from the HALFPRICE! sale. Second, DARTH VADER (2015) #1 releases on Wednesday. Over 25% of our order is now committed in advance, so I would strongly suggest getting your order for DARTH VADER (2015) in to us right away.

Happy Collecting!
