60% Off Comics Sale Ends Thursday

Howdy!

Today has been a bit of a crazy day, as we prepare for tomorrow's release of STAR WARS (2015) #2. This next issue of the hit new Marvel series stopped being available for re-order from Marvel weeks ago, and we are expecting that all of the copies that we advance ordered for our 4 Denver-area retail stores will sell out tomorrow, perhaps by early afternoon. My greatest regret is that we just did not order enough copies to fill the incredible demand that has materialized after the release of STAR WARS (2015) #1.

Star Wars #2

That same regret carries over to the STAR WARS (2015) #1 second printing variant, which is also releasing tomorrow. Because the print run on this variant is so small (Marvel only allowed retailers a three-day window in which to place orders...), we are already receiving a steady stream of pre-orders via our website at $25 each. Even though that price is well above cover, I am not sure how long I can maintain that asking price, as it now appears that almost no comics retailers will be receiving any copies at all of the second edition. My best guess is that the second is a 1:10 or 1:20 variant with the first printing, which would normally price it at a minimum of 5X - 10X the price of the first printings. It will be interesting to see how the market price on this rare second printing of STAR WARS (2015) #1 evolves over the next couple of days.

Star Wars #1 2nd Print

For those of you who might be feeling some skepticism about all this brouhaha about these new Star Wars comics, let me pass on a couple of cogent facts. First, I just found out today that Disney/LucasFilms is planning to release a new Star Wars movie in December of each of the next five (!) years. If that doesn't drive demand for this new Star Wars comics title crazy, then all my 45 years of experience in the comics biz will be contradicted. Second, while Marvel is planning a major overhaul of their entire superhero line beginning in May, the Star Wars titles will not be affected. Simply put, this #1 that was just released is the first installment of a key Marvel title that should continue being published for a long, long time.

That having been said, with the print run on STAR WARS (2015) #2 being only about 30% of #1, I believe that there will be shortages all around the country tomorrow. The same will probably hold true next Wednesday as well, as that is when DARTH VADER (2015) #1 releases. It also had a print run of only about 30% of STAR WARS (2015) #1. New information that I just received today is that this title has been promoted to an ongoing series, rather than a five-issue mini-series. Marvel is apparently fast-tracking having a second Star Wars title in their monthly line-up, and the easiest way to accomplish that goal was to simply morph DARTH VADER into a monthly series. I am soooo glad at this point that I had already committed us to buying 1,600 copies. We upped our advance order number by yet another 500 copies this morning, and will probably go back for more tomorrow, presuming that Marvel still has them available for reorder.

Darth Vader #1 Investment Pack

For those of you who would like to engage in a small speculation on DARTH VADER (2015) #1, we do still have about a dozen 10-packs of NM copies available on our website at $40 per 10-pack, which is 20% off of cover price. BTW, our experiment in offering advance order 10-packs on this title has been very successful, so expect some other possibilities for 10-packs from us to materialize soon. I only hesitate because I don't want to steer anyone toward anything that I consider only a marginal possibility. Giving investment advice is definitely not my job, and I only offered you the shot at getting a pack of DARTH VADER #1's because I went in so deep myself. I figure that if I believe in a project so much that I'm willing to risk thousands of dollars of my own money, then I probably really do believe that title is going to do well over the long haul.

Star Wars #1 Mile High

My final thought on STAR WARS (2015) is that those of you who have not yet ordered copies of our variants of #1 and #2 should do so immediately. With the market prices of the regular editions of STAR WARS (2015) #1 and #2 now skyrocketing, our current asking prices for our Mile High Comics exclusive variant editions seem inordinately low. Especially when you take into account that both of our STAR WARS (2015) variants were limited to only 3,000 copies (!) worldwide. Copies of our #1 variant are available on our website right now at $39.95, and our #2 variant at only $24.95. I can only, however, guarantee those prices will be available to you through this Friday, at noon. This current market for all Star Wars comics is just too volatile for me to be able to project any further...

Star Wars #2 Mile High

I will close today's newsletter with a quick mention that our annual 60% off GROUNDHOG! codeword sale on all of our back issue comics and magazines will end on this upcoming Thursday, at noon.
