Huge Private Collection
20,000 Marvel Comics At Jason St. this Saturday

Chuck and Pallets
Howdy!

My local newsletter for this week is being written a couple of days earlier than usual, as I want to be able to let you know about a couple of special events that we will be hosting this weekend. I'll start by mentioning that today's newsletter is being composed at the Indianapolis airport. That is because I just loaded up two huge pallets at the local FedEx Freight center, each containing over 10,000 Marvel Comics!

These comics are part of a huge private collection amassed by an executive of the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Company. Titles include (but are not limited to...) the following:

X-Men #1
AMAZING FANTASY #15
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1963) #1-up
AVENGERS #1-up
CAPTAIN AMERICA #100-up
DAREDEVIL #1-up
DEADPOOL #1-up
DEFENDERS #1-up
FANTASTIC FOUR #1-up
HULK #102 -up
IRON MAN #1-up
TALES OF SUSPENSE #67-#99
X-MEN (1963) #1-up

While the titles listed above are some of the highlights, this collection includes essentially all 20,000 Marvel Comics published from 1962 - 2011, with a huge number of mini-series, one-shots, and special editions. The only main titles from the early period that are not included are HULK #1-6, TALES OF SUSPENSE #39-#66, TALES TO ASTONISH, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY/THOR, and STRANGE TALES.

While the Marvel collection itself is quite wonderful, what makes my purchase of this huge deal especially important for those of you who shop with us in Denver is that I am trying to have these 20,000 Marvel comics delivered to us by this Friday, specifically so that we can offer you a second "pick-of-the-litter" sale at our Jason St. Mega-Store on this upcoming Saturday. Our last "pick-of-the-litter" sale (which featured 5,000 Golden Age, Silver Age, and Bronze Age comics that I purchased in Dallas two weekends ago...) was a resounding success, at least in part because those highly desirable comics had never been offered to our customers who shop with us via our website. Imagine the fun you could have being the first to select from this incredible Marvel Comics collection!

Deadpool #1
Before I move on to my second announcement, I do need to throw in a couple of cautionary notes. First, while FedEx Freight is reliable and fast, about one in ten of our shipment to ends up being delayed. The weather is projected to be good for the rest of this week, but there still remains a small possibility that these comics might not make it to Denver by Saturday. Presuming that they do make it, however we will have these comics on sale for you by 10 AM. I have a charity event to attend on Saturday, so Will Moulton, Pam, and Lynne will be at Jason St. on Saturday to grade and price these comics for you. I will then be continuing the pick-of-the-litter" sale all day on Sunday.

Second, the condition on the older comics in this collection average VG, with a great many of the earlier/key issues being in Fair and Good. That means that the prices will be quite reasonable, but if you are looking for "investment grade issues," we will not be able to offer you many of the older ones. There are, however, quite a few exceptionally high grade issues among the newer issues, including most of the DEADPOOL and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1999) issues, just to name a few.

Commanders Arsenal
Box Set
In other news, we are hosting a particularly large standard format Magic The Gathering Tournament at our Lakewood Location on this Saturday, beginning at 11:30 AM. The entry fee is only $5, with the grand prize being an incredibly rare Commanders Arsenal Box Set. We will also be hosting another Wednesday Night Magic tournament at our Jason St. Mega-Store this week. Call Randy at 303-477-0042 for more details.

My final news for today concerns SAVAGE WOLVERINE #1. As many of you are already aware, we contracted with Marvel Comics to publish a very limited edition J. Scott Campbell cover variant of this highly desirable new comic. While the title will not officially release until tomorrow morning, a last-minute online feeding frenzy has caused 60% (!) of our entire print run of our variant to already be pre-sold. The standard edition is now also completely sold out from Marvel, so it would seem that SAVAGE WOLVERINE is going to be a huge hit. We do still have a few copies reserved for our in-store customers, but all of us highly recommend that you pick up your copy of both editions tomorrow. We will still have a few copies of the standard SAVAGE WOLVERINE #1 at each store at cover price, while our variant cover is now at $14.95. Neither will remain at those prices for long...

Regular Cover

I will close today's newsletter by mentioning that the standard edition of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 (which I highly recommended a couple of weeks ago...) is now selling briskly for us on our website at $15 per copy, while we totally sold out of the standard cover of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #700, at $30 each. We do still have a few of the #700 variants available, but they seem to be in very short supply, too. I am not sure if the cause of these rapid price increases on brand new comics reflects some measure of under-printing by Marvel, but it is certainly the case right now that there are not enough copies on many recent issues to fulfill collector demand. That having been said, please be sure and update your new comics subscription list regularly at your favorite Mile High Comics location. We are trying to keep up with demand, but quite a few new comics are still selling our for us right now on the day that they are released...
