New Teen Titans #2
The first appearance of Deathstroke, the Terminator. The cover asks the question "Can This Be the End of the Titans?" Would they end the book when this is just issue number two? No way! This tale of revenge and crass treachery is brought to you by the legendary team of Marv Wolfman and George Perez, and they had a lot more in store for the new Titans.
Grant Wilson, a high-strung young lad whose life the Teen Titans disrupted as part of their battle with the Gordanians (see issue #1), vows revenge. Unfortunately for him, the Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Eliminations (H.I.V.E.) is all too happy to help him exact his vengeance. Augmenting his brain and body power, the clandestine H.I.V.E. makes him the Ravager. With his newfound power he turns on the Titans like a tornado. But the candle that burns hot burns twice as quickly. Soon it's the older, more stable Terminator who steps in against the Titans. What is their strange connection, discovered in this book's last tragic moments? (For a glimpse of Perez' prototype for the Terminator, check out the Taskmaster in Avengers #196).
Perez' art reflected more strength of line and surety with each book he did in this series. But here the careful observer can still see familiar signs of Jack Kirby's influence as well as Perez' own emerging style. Meanwhile, Wolfman continues to build a tight circle of enemies to surround the Titans, setting up an inevitable confrontation that would only end in death.
