New Teen Titans #1
Origin and premiere issue! Relive the excitement of the first meeting of perhaps the greatest incarnation of the Teen Titans of all time. At the height of its popularity, the New Teen Titans rivaled the X-Men in fan following. That adoration came justly: Marv Wolfman had teamed with George Perez (still a relative newcomer to comic book art but coming into his own) to create a milieu fraught with danger and insidious plots and peopled with some of the most fascinating and endearing characters in the modern DC universe.
The mysteriously tragic Raven gathers Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Changeling (the Doom Patrol's Beast Boy) and newcomer Cyborg to face a menace that remains behind the scenes. Into this tinderbox, Wolfman throws in a match: Starfire, the golden-skinned princess from far Tamaran. Her spark is not missed by the Boy Wonder as we start to see here the first flickering flashes of a torrid romance between the two that would last for years. It's also a strange attraction Wally West (today's Flash) shows for the black-tressed Raven. Is there something sinister behind it? Meanwhile, Changeling and Cyborg begin the banter that, in issues to come, would belie the tragedy at the foundation of each of their worlds. The team unites in the face of the merciless Gordanians -- playing out the first gambit in a galactic chess match that would forge the team into a rock-hard fighting force no longer in the shadow of the Justice League of America.
The launch of the New Teen Titans finds the team of Wolfman and Perez just a few years away from making DC Universe history with the Crisis on Infinite Earths. The world of Superman, Batman and the Titans would never be the same.
