Spider-Man (1963) #6
Origin and first appearance of the Lizard. "Face to Face With the Lizard!" is written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko. Of all of Spider-Man's rogues' gallery, no foe is as savage or ruthless as the Lizard. Here's Spidey's first encounter with the scaly scoundrel from the Silver Age of Marvel. When reports begin surfacing of a man-like reptile menacing the Everglades, J. Jonah Jameson prints a challenge aimed at Spider-Man, goading him into facing the creature.
Peter Parker convinces Jameson to pay for his travel down to Florida in order to get photographs of Spider-Man battling the Lizard. And while down there, the Web-slinger encounters the wife and son of the brilliant Dr. Curt Conners, the man whose experiments in tissue regeneration transformed him into the reptilian horror now menacing the swamp. The Lizard's plans include evolving alligators and snakes into an army to challenge mankind's dominion over the Earth! Somehow our hero has to stop the Lizard and save the man he once was.
