Justice League of America (1960) #1
Premiere issue. "The World of No Return!" is written by Gardner Fox with art by Mike Sekowsky and Bernard Sachs. After its wildly successful debut in the Brave and the Bold, the Justice League of America finally got its own bimonthly title in answer to fans' letters. More than just a revival of the Justice Society of America, the JLA title created a whole new world of super-villains and menaces to fit the Space Age. Here, our story begins as police scientist Barry (Flash) Allen is drawn to a remote cabin after a blue glow emanating from there shuts down his car. Inside, he finds a scientist from another dimension and his beautiful daughter who say they are building an energy sapping device to save their planet from a three-eyed tyrant named Despero.
After calling his pals at the Justice League together to see if they can help, the Flash is horrified to find that Despero is one step ahead and has enthralled them all with his mystic mental powers. He challenges the Fastest Man Alive to a deadly game in which our heroes are moved about like chess-pieces. And each move puts one of them in great peril. Wonder Woman and Superman battle dinosaurs on a primitive planet. Green Lantern and Aquaman must stop a gigantic lens from boiling the oceans of another. And Batman and the Martian Manhunter must stop a doomsday countdown and a fiery assassin on a third world.
