DEFENDERS (1972) (#1-152) (MARVEL) #96 - Plot Synopsis

Defenders #96
Guest-starring the Ghost Rider. "The Rock and Roll Conspiracy" was written by J.M. De Matteis and drawn by Don Perlin and Joe Sinnott with a cover by Michael Golden. The Six-Fingered Hand, a cadre of demons bent on ruling the earth but first destroying the Defenders, finds a willing disciple in Asmodeus Jones, rock star supreme! His Satanic lyrics and a fiery stage show prove KISS and Alice Cooper have nothing on Jones. Most frightening of all, through Jones stirring up of his fans, he's able to conjure the form of the horrible demoness Fashima, one of the Six-Fingered Hand demons.

Meanwhile, Kyle (Nighthawk) Richmond deals with his daytime paralysis with the aid and comfort of the lovely Valkyrie. And the Gargoyle and Hellcat watch as the Son of Satan prove his hellborn hands can heal as well as harm. But the action really gets going when the Ghost Rider takes on the Defenders and then joins them in battle against Asmodeus Jones and Fashima in a crowded concert arena. In the end, the rock star idol of millions Jones learns the bitter price humanity pays for dabbling in the black arts.
