"That He May See!" Art by Wally Wood. Story by Stan Lee. If you were Daredevil - if you had an uncanny radar sense that allowed you to infallibly make your way through the most treacherous gauntlets without the benefit of sight - would you seek a cure for your blindness? When a world famous eye surgeon agrees to take Matt Murdock's case at the behest of the lovely Karen Page, DD is intrigued by the possibility of a normal life, but afraid of losing his wonderful powers. The question seems moot, however, when the doctor abruptly moves to Lichtenbad, a small, remote European country. Still, when the Duke of Lichtenbad, Klaus Kruger, visits his old buddies Murdock and Foggy Nelson, the offer is given to fly Matt to the doctor so the surgery can take place.
Sensing something amiss in Kruger's motives, DD plays along and in Lichtenbad, his suspicions prove true. The Duke is hated by his people and he represses them horribly. Our hero soon discovers that he and the eye doctor are not guests but prisoners of a madman bent on conquering first Europe and then the world and gathering the world's leading experts in each professional field to aid him. Enter the Man Without Fear, who times his escape with an uprising by the people. Unfortunately, the Duke's robot guards prove almost too much for DD and the rebels. In true Stan Lee fashion, the climax builds with each tick of a timer on an atomic bomb. But with the noble sacrifice of the eye doctor's life, Daredevil is able to defeat the Duke on the parapets of his own castle.
