"The Keepers of the Crypt" is written by Roy Thomas with art by Barry Smith and Tom Sutton and Tom Palmer. Soldiers of Corinthia hunt Conan in the tall grasses but like a jaguar he waits for them on high ground. Rather than face their swords one on many, he evens the odds with a few strategically loosened boulders until only their bitter captain is left. But although he's been paid to end the Cimmerian's life, he's no match for Conan's ferocity. Striding eastward after his victory, Conan happens upon a city empty except for a slavering, giant Gila Monster he rightly names a dragon. Escaping its claws on high ground and stuffing its gullet with wrecked stone gains him yet another conquest.
Deeper in the city, he encounters the young Corinthian captain he thought he'd left for dead. But before they can renew their battle, they both stand agog at a treasure trove of gold hidden away in a long-abandoned temple. Taking their pick of the treasure, the pair vow to continue their quarrel another day. However, the massive skeletal guards who line the walls of the sacred vault aren't about to let Conan and his companion in crime escape with the bounty. But in the end, Conan rides free after reuniting with his lovely companion Jenna! A sword and sorcery classic!
