Astonishing X-Men (2004) #5
Written by Joss Whedon and drawn by John Cassaday. The X-Men have been discovered infiltrating Benetech Laboratories. Their mission (to discover the truth source of Hope, the drug aimed at "curing"mutation) has gone unfulfilled. Guards armed in exo-suits have laid out Cyclops and severely hurt Beast and Wolverine. Only Emma Frost is on her feet against heavy firepower. With special earpieces blocking her mental domination, Emma is unsure of how she'll get our favorite mutants to safety. But a surprise recovery by Wolverine and Beast turn the tables on the guards and soon the X-Men can confront Dr. Rao, director of the facility, herself about the origins of Hope.
They don't have to wonder long as crashing through the wall comes Ord of the Breakworld, the alien bully who has recently visited the children left alone at the X-Mansion. Ord's arrival here confirms what the X-Men worried may be true, namely that Hope is of alien origin. But although it appears Ord has the upper hand for a time, another surprise arrival turns the tables once more: Colossus returns to the X-Men. With a fury borne of months of torture and cruel experimentation, the steely Russian mutant lays Ord low. But the surprises don't end there as soon the entire scene is taken over by S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, back at the X-Mansion, the young mutants gather around Wing, who has lost his powers thanks to an involuntary injection of Hope. Will he survive being "normal"?
