ACTION COMICS (1938) (#0-600, 643-904) (DC) #314 - Plot Synopsis

Action Comics (1938) #314
Guest-starring the Justice League of America. "The Day Superman Became the Flash!" is written by Edmond Hamilton with art by Al Plastino. Superman is summoned to a remote island by his friends in the JLA. There, Aquaman presents him with a recorded message he found at the bottom of the ocean. The video message is from Jor-El, Superman's father from the doomed planet of Krypton, and was sent with him on the rocket that brought the Man of Steel to our world.

Through a series of visual scenarios, Jor-El describes the different planets he considered before choosing to send baby Kal-El to Earth. And he projects what his son's life would be like on each of these alien worlds. Remarkably, Jor-El predicts Kal-El would have grown into an adult hero much like each of his JLA friends: Aquaman, Green Arrow, Batman, the Atom and the Flash. But each life would've resulted in a tragic or sad fate for the Last Son of Krypton and so Earth became his perfect adoptive home. Also, writer Leo Dorfman and artist Jim Mooney weave a tale of "Supergirl's Tragic Ordeal!"
