WESTERN ACTION (1975) #1 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Western Action (1975) #1
First appearance and origin of Kid Cody, Gunfighter and the Comanche Kid. Atlas made a big splash on the mid-1970s comic scene as the "New House of Ideas," and like Image Comics which would come 15 years later, it took some of DC and Marvel's top talent and put them to work on a brand-new universe of heroes and villains. Western Action was Atlas' foray into the gunfighter genre but, as with many of the upstart company's titles, it lasted only one issue. But the quality of the art and stories, as well as the sheer enthusiasm of these comics, make them memorable.

In our first tale, a young homesteader is forced to pick up a six-shooter when a land-hungry cattle rancher has his entire family killed. Kid Cody leans on the teachings of the town drunk, a former gunslinger named Logan, to wreak his revenge in "Birth of a Badman!" (script by Larry Lieber, art by Doug Wildey). Then, a half-breed warrior named the Comanche Kid joins the "Vengeance Trail" to track down and punish a pair of murdering desperado brothers (written by Steve Skeates and drawn by Jack Abel and Al Milgrom).
