TOWER OF SHADOWS (1969) #9 - Descriptive Bibliography

Plot Synopsis: Tower of Shadows #9
Cover by Bernie Wrightson. Stories unearthed from the shadowy minds of Marvel! We start off with "Pickman's Model," a sweaty little original tale adapted from a story by H.P. Lovecraft. Written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Tom Palmer, it tells of a painter whose grotesque work is inspired by some horrifying real subjects from deep in the city's sewers. Then, meet the man who declared "I Dared to Enter the Haunted Room" (art by Don Heck). A madman bent on extorting millions from the world's governments builds a doomsday device. In order for his plot to succeed, he needs a secure location for the bomb and a haunted house that's up for rent fits the bill perfectly. But when the man enters the most deeply disturbed room in the house, he finds he can no longer realize his dream of being rich; because he's ceased to be!

Next, in a story drawn by Jack Kirby, a wheelchair-bound recluse spends a small fortune on a ship and a crew to take him far to sea in search of "The World That Was Lost!" Looking for all the world like a cross between the Sub-Mariner and Professor X of the X-Men, Linus Vermeer holds a strange and startling secret which he reveals when the ship reaches its incredible destination; the lost continent of Atlantis. Finally, one lone brave man faces "The Threat from the 5th Dimension!" (not the '60s pop group, by the way). Steve Ditko illustrates the story of a man bedeviled by shapes from another realm who wish to take over our reality. But to do so, they must capture the sleeper in his dreams and convince him that they are not real!
