Plot Synopsis: Thor (1962) #117
"Into the Blaze of Battle" is written by Stan Lee and drawn by Jack Kirby and Vince Colletta. Due to Loki's trickery, Thor has lost the Trial of the Gods. Using the power of the Norn Stones, the trickster was able to win the race set up by Odin to determine which of his sons is more deserving of his birthright. In order to hide the evidence of his duplicity, Loki sends the mystic stones to Earth. One lands in the jungles of Viet Nam and Odin gives Thor leave to travel to Earth to uncover evidence of Loki's cheating.

Spotted by forces of the Viet Cong, Thor is blasted out of the sky with anti-aircraft howitzers. Taken in by villagers menaced by the Communist North Vietnamese, Thor learns the nobility of the people under siege. Using his Uru hammer, he traces the Norn Stone to the V.C.'s ammo stockpile underground. But after becoming Dr. Don Blake to pass more easily through the jungle, Thor is taken captive by the brutal Reds! Also, don't miss a riveting Tale of Asgard as Odin draws the dread, world-ending Oversword in "The Sword in the Scabbard!"
